Community Occupational Therapist (Locum)

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Community Occupational Therapist to join the Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, serving the North West NHS region. This locum role focuses on supporting individuals to live safely and independently in their own homes through specialist assessments and the delivery of major adaptations such as wet rooms, ramps, and other accessibility modifications. You will work closely with service users, families, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure that all interventions are person-centred, effective, and enable long-term independence.

Key Responsibilities

  •
  • Conduct comprehensive community-based assessments to identify functional needs and recommend suitable adaptations and equipment.

  • Design and oversee major adaptations, including wet rooms, access modifications, and mobility-related home improvements.

  • Work collaboratively with contractors, surveyors, and other professionals to ensure the safe and effective implementation of adaptation projects.

  • Provide tailored advice and interventions to promote independence, wellbeing, and safety within the home environment.

  • Maintain clear and accurate clinical documentation in accordance with NHS standards and local trust policies.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including physiotherapists, nurses, and social care staff, to ensure coordinated, person-centred support.

About You

You are a skilled and proactive Occupational Therapist with experience in community-based practice and a strong understanding of major home adaptations. Your ability to assess complex cases, manage competing priorities, and communicate effectively with service users and professionals will be key to your success. You’ll bring a person-centred, problem-solving approach and a commitment to improving quality of life for individuals across the community.

Requirements

  •
  • Degree or diploma in Occupational Therapy and current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

  • Previous experience working within NHS community services.

  • Demonstrable skills and knowledge in major home adaptations (e.g., wet rooms, access modifications).

  • Excellent clinical reasoning, communication, and time management skills.

  • Ability to work autonomously within community settings while collaborating effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

  • Full UK driving licence and access to transport is highly desirable.

Contract & Salary

  •
  • Job Type: Locum

  • Contract Length: Ongoing

  • Working Hours: Full-time, standard NHS hours

  • Location: Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust
