Occupational Therapist – Band 6 (Locum)

Job Overview

We are recruiting an experienced Band 6 Occupational Therapist for a locum role at the Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust – Riverside Centre, Pield Heath Road. This position involves working with service users who have complex, severe, and enduring mental health needs. You’ll use evidence-based and recovery-oriented approaches to help individuals enhance their quality of life, promote independence, and achieve meaningful personal goals. Key Responsibilities

•  
• Manage a caseload of service users with complex mental health needs, delivering high-quality occupational therapy interventions in line with recovery principles.
   

• Conduct detailed assessments to identify functional abilities, barriers, and personal goals, and use these insights to plan, implement, and evaluate individualised treatment programmes.
   

• Integrate evidence-based practice with person-centred recovery principles to support service users in leading fulfilling, independent lives.
   

• Provide expert advice on lifestyle changes, environmental adaptations, and the use of equipment or aids to improve wellbeing and participation in daily life.
   

• Apply clinical reasoning and professional judgement to make recommendations for equipment and adaptations that promote safety and autonomy.
   

• Offer leadership and supervision to junior or unqualified staff, supporting their professional development and maintaining high standards of care.

About You

You will be a skilled and empathetic Occupational Therapist with a solid background in mental health and a commitment to evidence-based, recovery-focused care. Your clinical expertise and strong communication skills will enable you to engage effectively with service users, families, and multidisciplinary teams. You’ll have the confidence to work autonomously while contributing collaboratively within a supportive NHS environment.

Requirements

•  
• Degree or diploma in Occupational Therapy and current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
   

• Experience working with adults with complex and enduring mental health conditions.
   

• Comprehensive understanding of occupational therapy assessments, treatment planning, and recovery-oriented approaches.
   

• Knowledge of environmental adaptations, assistive equipment, and strategies to enhance daily living skills.
   

• Excellent communication, time management, and organisational skills.
   

• Ability to supervise and support junior team members.
