Occupational Therapist (Part-Time) – Cheshire West and Chester Council

Job Overview

We’re looking for an experienced **Occupational Therapist** to join **Cheshire West and Chester Council’s Adult Social Services team** in the **North West**. This locum position focuses on a **Single-Handed Care Project**, supporting individuals with complex needs to regain or maintain independence at home. You’ll use your clinical expertise to assess functional ability, recommend adaptive strategies, and provide specialist equipment or environmental modifications to reduce care dependency.

Key Responsibilities

– Carry out comprehensive functional assessments for individuals who are ill, disabled, or recovering from injury. – Lead on the **Single-Handed Care Project**, identifying opportunities to reduce double-handed care packages through equipment, techniques, or environmental solutions. – Provide tailored recommendations for assistive technology, moving and handling equipment, and home adaptations. – Deliver training, guidance, and support to carers and other professionals to implement single-handed care approaches safely and effectively. – Maintain accurate case records, reports, and assessments in line with professional and council standards. – Work collaboratively with social workers, physiotherapists, reablement staff, and community teams to promote independence and well-being.

About You

You’re a confident and resourceful Occupational Therapist who enjoys problem-solving and helping people live independently. You’ll bring strong assessment and reasoning skills, along with practical experience in **single-handed care and moving and handling techniques**. A proactive approach, good communication, and teamwork skills are essential to succeed in this project-based role.

Requirements

– Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy. – Current registration with the **Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)**. – Proven experience in community or social services settings. – Specialist knowledge of **single-handed care** principles and practice. – Strong understanding of moving and handling risk assessments and adaptive equipment. – Enhanced DBS certificate (or willingness to obtain one).

– **Job type:** Locum (ongoing contract) – **Hours:** 18.5 hours per week – **Location:** Cheshire West and Chester Council, North West – **Pay rate:** £32.37 per hour – **Reporting to:** Senior Occupational Therapist / Project Lead
