Job Overview
We are recruiting a Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join the Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust within the West Midlands NHS. This locum role is based in the Intermediate Care Service and focuses on supporting patients to regain independence and functional ability following illness, injury, or hospital discharge.
This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled clinician to contribute to a multidisciplinary team that delivers high-quality, patient-centred rehabilitation across community and inpatient settings.
Key Responsibilities
– Conduct thorough functional and environmental assessments to identify patients’ rehabilitation and support needs.
– Develop and implement tailored intervention plans aimed at promoting independence and safe discharge.
– Recommend and coordinate the provision of assistive equipment and minor adaptations as needed.
– Work collaboratively with physiotherapists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to deliver integrated Intermediate Care services.
– Provide education and advice to patients, carers, and families on self-management and recovery strategies.
– Maintain accurate and timely clinical records in line with NHS and HCPC standards.
– Contribute to service meetings and support the development of best practice within the Intermediate Care team.
About You
You’ll be a dedicated and motivated Occupational Therapist with a strong understanding of rehabilitation and Intermediate Care. You will be confident in managing your own caseload, demonstrating sound clinical reasoning, and adapting your approach to meet individual needs.
Strong teamwork, communication, and organisational skills are essential, as is a flexible approach to delivering care within a fast-paced service environment.
Requirements
– Degree (or equivalent) in Occupational Therapy
– Current HCPC registration
– Experience working within Intermediate Care, rehabilitation, or hospital discharge services (desirable)
– Excellent assessment and problem-solving skills
– Strong communication and interpersonal abilities
– Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team
Contract & Salary
– Contract type: Locum
– Contract length: Ongoing
– Working hours: Monday to Friday, 09:00 – 17:00 (shift-based)
– Location: Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust, West Midlands
– Salary: Negotiable, dependent on experience
