Senior Occupational Therapist

Job Overview

Shropshire Council is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Occupational Therapist to support its Single-Handed Care Review Project. This locum position plays a key role in improving client wellbeing and independence through effective reassessment of existing care packages and the implementation of assistive equipment solutions.

You’ll be responsible for carrying out detailed single-handed care assessments, identifying opportunities to reduce double-handed care, and recommending interventions that promote autonomy, efficiency, and safety for both clients and carers.

Key Responsibilities

– Undertake single-handed care reviews to evaluate and adjust existing care packages in line with Care Act (2014) principles.

– Conduct around 10 single-handed assessments per week, identifying suitable equipment or adaptations to reduce carer reliance.

– Recommend and order assistive equipment to support independence and safe mobility at home.

– Collaborate closely with colleagues in the Adult Social Care team to update support plans and ensure joined-up, person-centred service delivery.

– Promote best practice in moving and handling, applying specialist knowledge and training.

– Contribute to the success of the Single-Handed Care Review Project by enhancing outcomes for service users and supporting sustainable care delivery.

– Maintain accurate and timely records, ensuring compliance with council policies and professional standards.

About You

You’ll be a confident and autonomous Occupational Therapist with extensive post-qualification experience and a solid background in single-handed care practice. You’ll be able to work efficiently and analytically, balancing professional judgement with empathy to deliver solutions that make a tangible difference to service users’ lives.
