Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist – Neuro – Band 6/7 to join the Community Neuro Rehabilitation Service (CNRS) and Early Supported Discharge – Stroke (ESD) service in South Cambridgeshire.

This specialist community role will involve providing expert Occupational Therapy assessment and intervention to patients with complex neurological conditions and multiple pathologies. The successful candidate will work autonomously within an integrated multidisciplinary service, providing clinical leadership while supporting high-quality, patient-centred neurorehabilitation.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess, plan and develop specialist Occupational Therapy programmes for patients with complex neurological conditions and a wide range of complex needs.
• Work as an autonomous specialist practitioner within the Integrated Stroke ESD and Community Neuro Rehabilitation Service.
• Manage an independent caseload and undertake specialist assessments using advanced clinical reasoning skills.
• Lead the team in managing patients with highly complex and sometimes unstable health needs, using expert knowledge and advanced clinical decision-making.
• Identify patient needs, agree meaningful goals and provide appropriate therapy interventions addressing physical, functional, psychological and cognitive needs.
• Provide adaptive equipment and develop individual rehabilitation programmes.
• Work collaboratively with Occupational Therapy colleagues to develop recommendations for minor and major adaptations.
• Refer patients to other services and agencies to ensure identified needs are appropriately addressed.
• Keep patients at the centre of care and promote patient and carer participation in decision-making.
• Provide specialist Neuro Rehabilitation Occupational Therapy advice to professionals from other disciplines.
• Prioritise referrals according to clinical need and allocate or signpost appropriately.
• Allocate work to junior and non-registered staff.
• Provide support, education and guidance to peers, new staff, non-registered staff and students.
• Remain accountable for delegated caseloads held by non-registered staff within the team.
• Contribute to systems that evidence compliance with relevant Care Quality Commission standards.
• Provide a consistently high standard of patient care across community settings.
• Work independently across a range of community environments, including lone working.

About You

We are looking for a highly experienced Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist with specialist knowledge of neurological rehabilitation and the confidence to manage complex clinical presentations autonomously. You will have advanced clinical reasoning and decision-making skills, with the ability to assess patients with complex and multiple pathologies and develop appropriate rehabilitation programmes.

You will be confident providing clinical advice to colleagues, allocating work and supporting the development of junior, non-registered and newly appointed staff. A patient-centred approach is essential, with a strong focus on involving patients and carers in goal setting and decision-making.

Requirements

• Relevant Occupational Therapy qualification.
• Current HCPC registration.
• Significant Occupational Therapy experience within neurological rehabilitation.
• Experience assessing and treating patients with complex neurological conditions and multiple pathologies.
• Advanced clinical reasoning and autonomous decision-making skills.
• Experience working within a multidisciplinary community rehabilitation or stroke service.
• Experience developing and delivering specialist rehabilitation programmes.
• Experience with adaptive equipment and recommendations for minor and major adaptations.
• Experience providing specialist clinical advice to colleagues from other disciplines.
• Experience supporting, supervising, educating or allocating work to junior and non-registered staff.
• Ability to manage a complex caseload and prioritise referrals according to clinical need.
• Ability to work across community settings, including lone working.
