Occupational Therapist (Locum)
Job Overview
We are recruiting an experienced Occupational Therapist to join the Royal Borough of Kingston within South West London Social Services. This community-based locum role sits within Community Care services and focuses on supporting adults with complex disability needs in their own homes. You will deliver specialist assessments, prescribe equipment and adaptations, and contribute to safe and effective long-term solutions that promote independence, accessibility, and wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities

- Undertake specialist community-based occupational therapy assessments for adults with complex disability needs.
- Develop intervention plans to maximise functional independence in daily living activities.
- Prescribe specialist disability equipment and minor home adaptations to support safety and independence.
- Make professional recommendations for major adaptations, including reports aligned with the Disabled Facilities Grant process.
- Carry out Complex Moving & Handling Risk Assessments and produce detailed Personal Handling Plans.
- Complete assessments for rehousing recommendations on disability grounds and undertake Void Property Assessments as required.
- Work collaboratively with service users, families, housing teams, health professionals, and wider social care colleagues.
- Maintain accurate, high-standard clinical documentation in line with professional and local authority requirements.
About You
You are an Occupational Therapist with solid experience in community practice and a strong understanding of equipment provision, home adaptations, and complex moving and handling. You bring excellent clinical reasoning, communication, and problem-solving skills, along with a commitment to delivering person-centred, strengths-based support that enables adults to live safely and independently in their homes.
Requirements

- Degree or diploma in Occupational Therapy and current HCPC registration.
- Experience working with adults in community or social care settings.
- Strong skills in equipment prescription, minor/major adaptations, and functional assessment.
- Experience completing complex moving and handling assessments and writing Personal Handling Plans.
- Knowledge of the Disabled Facilities Grant process and housing-related OT practice is desirable.
- Excellent communication, documentation, and collaborative working skills.
