Occupational Therapist

Brief Job Overview

Tripod Partners are recruiting an experienced Occupational Therapist for a locum opportunity within Suffolk Social Services. Based at Haverhill Health Centre, this role sits within the Adult Social Care Area Integrated Team, supporting adults with care and support needs to maximise their independence and remain safely within their own homes.

This is an excellent opportunity for an Occupational Therapist with Adult Social Care and community experience who is passionate about delivering strengths-based, person-centred interventions. You will manage a varied caseload, undertake comprehensive functional assessments, develop reablement plans, and work collaboratively with health, housing, and community partners to deliver positive outcomes for residents.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a varied Adult Social Care caseload, responding to Occupational Therapy referrals across the local area and supporting neighbouring teams where required.
  • Undertake strengths-based, face-to-face Occupational Therapy assessments for adults and their carers within community settings.
  • Assess functional ability, moving and handling needs, reablement potential, and environmental factors to promote independence.
  • Develop, implement, and review person-centred reablement plans with clear goals and measurable outcomes.
  • Recommend and arrange appropriate equipment, assistive technology, digital solutions, and environmental adaptations to support independent living.
  • Prepare recommendations, applications, and specifications for major and minor adaptations, Community Equipment Services (CES), Registered Social Landlords, Home Improvement Agencies, and local authority housing services.
  • Assess for specialist equipment in partnership with suppliers, ensuring best value and appropriate provision.
  • Work collaboratively with Community Health Services, Acute Trusts, housing providers, voluntary organisations, and other partner agencies to coordinate effective care.
  • Interpret and apply the Care Act 2014 and other relevant legislation to Occupational Therapy practice within Adult Social Care.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential electronic case records, assessments, and clinical documentation.
  • Support urgent response systems and contribute to the effective delivery of integrated Adult Social Care services.
  • Provide specialist Occupational Therapy advice and guidance to colleagues, including Independence and Wellbeing Practitioners (IWPs), trusted assessors, and multidisciplinary team members.
  • Support the professional development and supervision of less experienced colleagues where appropriate.

About You

You will be an HCPC-registered Occupational Therapist with experience working within Adult Social Care or community rehabilitation services. You will be confident undertaking complex functional assessments, delivering strengths-based interventions, and supporting adults to achieve maximum independence within their own homes.

You will possess excellent communication, clinical reasoning, report writing, and organisational skills, together with a strong understanding of the Care Act 2014, equipment provision, moving and handling, and housing adaptations.

Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
  • Current HCPC registration.
  • Experience working within Adult Social Care, Integrated Teams, or Community Occupational Therapy services.
  • Excellent knowledge of the Care Act 2014 and Adult Social Care legislation.
  • Experience completing functional, moving and handling, and reablement assessments.
  • Knowledge of Community Equipment Services (CES), assistive technology, major and minor adaptations, and Disabled Facilities Grant processes.
  • Strong communication, report writing, and multidisciplinary team-working skills.
  • Ability to manage a complex community caseload and prioritise workload effectively.
  • Full driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential.

Contract & Salary

  • Role: Occupational Therapist
  • Sector: Suffolk Social Services
  • Contract Type: Locum
  • Contract Length: 3–6 months with potential for extension
  • Pay Rate: £35 per hour (Umbrella)
  • Working Hours: 37 hours per week
  • Working Pattern: Flexible/hybrid working with guidance of two office days per week
  • Location: Haverhill Health Centre – Suffolk County Council
  • Reference Code: U. RQ1757723.021007.B20696
