Job Overview
We are recruiting an experienced Occupational Therapist to join Somerset County Council within the Somerset Social Services area. This locum role focuses on delivering a comprehensive occupational therapy service to adults and carers, supporting individuals to maximise independence and achieve their personal goals. You will work across the full OT process—assessment, planning, intervention, and review—ensuring that support is aligned with current legislation and best practice.
Key Responsibilities

- Carry out holistic occupational therapy assessments to identify individuals’ needs, strengths, and priorities.
- Develop personalised plans that support independence in activities of daily living and promote safety and wellbeing.
- Implement appropriate interventions, including the recommendation of equipment and environmental adaptations.
- Review and evaluate outcomes, adjusting support plans where required to ensure continued relevance and effectiveness.
- Work collaboratively with service users, carers, and multidisciplinary colleagues to ensure coordinated support.
- Provide advice, information, and guidance that empower individuals to make informed choices about their care.
- Maintain accurate documentation in line with professional standards and local authority requirements.
About You
You are a dedicated Occupational Therapist with strong assessment and intervention skills and a commitment to supporting adults to live independently. You bring a person-centred approach, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work across a varied caseload. Your understanding of relevant legislation and best practice in adult social care ensures high-quality service delivery.
Requirements

- Degree or diploma in Occupational Therapy and registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
- Experience working within adult social care or community settings.
- Strong assessment, planning, and intervention skills across the OT process.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation relating to adult social care and occupational therapy practice.
- Excellent communication, documentation, and organisational skills.
- Ability to work autonomously and manage a varied caseload.
