Paediatric Occupational Therapist

Brief Job Overview

Tripod Partners are recruiting an experienced Paediatric Occupational Therapist for a locum opportunity within North West Social Services. Based with Rochdale Borough Council, this role sits within the Children with Disabilities Team, supporting children and young people with disabilities to achieve greater independence, safety, and participation within their home and community environments.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a collaborative and forward-thinking service, working closely with families, carers, education providers, health professionals, and partner agencies. The successful candidate will deliver specialist assessments, equipment provision, and adaptation recommendations that improve outcomes and quality of life for children and young people with complex needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake holistic Occupational Therapy assessments of children and young people with disabilities within their home environments.
  • Assess, recommend, and arrange specialist equipment to support independence, safety, and daily living activities.
  • Provide advice regarding specialist seating, moving and handling equipment, bathing equipment, and toileting solutions.
  • Assess for and contribute to major and minor home adaptations to ensure environments are safe and accessible.
  • Work collaboratively with children, families, and carers to identify needs and achieve positive outcomes.
  • Develop and contribute to child-centred care and support plans.
  • Liaise effectively with health professionals, education providers, council services, and voluntary organisations.
  • Manage an independent caseload, prioritising assessments and interventions appropriately.
  • Provide practical advice, support, and guidance to families and carers.
  • Maintain accurate case records, assessments, and reports in accordance with professional and organisational standards.
  • Contribute to multidisciplinary meetings and collaborative working across services.

About You

You will be an enthusiastic and proactive Occupational Therapist with experience supporting children and young people with disabilities. You will be passionate about improving outcomes for children and families and confident working independently while contributing to a supportive multidisciplinary team.

You will have strong assessment skills, experience in equipment provision and adaptations, and the ability to build effective relationships with families, carers, and professionals across a range of agencies.

Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
  • Current HCPC registration.
  • Experience working with children and young people with disabilities.
  • Experience assessing for equipment provision and housing adaptations.
  • Knowledge of specialist equipment including seating, moving and handling, bathing, and toileting solutions.
  • Experience managing an independent caseload.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multi-agency environment.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Knowledge of children’s equipment desirable, although support and development will be available.
  • Commitment to delivering child-centred, outcome-focused practice.

Contract & Salary

  • Role: Paediatric Occupational Therapist
  • Sector: North West Social Services
  • Contract Type: Locum
  • Contract Length: Ongoing
  • Salary: £33–£40 per hour
  • Working Pattern: Hybrid working
  • Location: Number 1 Riverside, Rochdale
