Qualified Social Worker – Locum (3-Month Contract) – Waltham Forest
Brief Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Qualified Social Worker to join Waltham Forest Council on a 3-month locum contract. This role involves supporting children and families through timely assessments, effective care planning, and partnership working with key agencies. You will play an essential role in ensuring that children’s welfare and safety remain at the heart of all interventions within a supportive and forward-thinking local authority.
Key Responsibilities

Manage a caseload of children and families in need of social work intervention

Complete high-quality assessments, care plans, and reports in line with statutory requirements

Work collaboratively with partner agencies to promote positive outcomes for children and young people

Undertake child protection investigations and contribute to care proceedings where necessary
-
Maintain accurate and timely case records in accordance with council policies and professional standards
-
Participate in regular supervision, reflective practice, and team development sessions
About You

You are a registered Social Worker with Social Work England (SWE)

You have proven experience in statutory children’s services, ideally within assessment, safeguarding, or child protection teams
-
You demonstrate strong analytical, communication, and report-writing skills
-
You are resilient, organised, and committed to achieving the best outcomes for children and families
Requirements

Degree in Social Work (or equivalent qualification)

Current registration with Social Work England (SWE)

Previous experience working within local authority children’s social care teams
-
Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage competing priorities

Car driver with access to a vehicle is desirable
