Occupational Therapist – Brent Council, North West London

Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and motivated Occupational Therapist to join Brent Council’s Adult Social Care team on a locum basis. This role focuses on enabling adults with physical disabilities, complex needs, or mental health conditions to achieve greater independence, safety, and wellbeing in their daily lives.

Working within a strength-based practice framework, you’ll provide assessments, interventions, and tailored support that empower residents to live more independently and make the best use of available resources. You will be part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team committed to high-quality outcomes and continuous professional development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out needs-led assessments under the Care Act, working closely with residents and their carers to identify practical solutions that promote independence and wellbeing.

  • Deliver a comprehensive Occupational Therapy service to adults with physical disabilities, complex needs, or multiple impairments, including those with mental health conditions.

  • Develop and implement goal-oriented treatment plans that support daily living, mobility, and engagement within home and community environments.

  • Provide equipment, adaptations, and moving and handling solutions to meet assessed needs and ensure safety for service users and carers.

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across health, housing, and social care services to ensure a coordinated and holistic approach to care.

  • Identify and address the needs of carers, ensuring appropriate support and signposting where eligible.

  • Make professional judgements within relevant legal and policy frameworks including the Care Act, Mental Capacity Act, and Safeguarding Adults procedures.

  • Promote the use of specialist OT knowledge in cost-effective, person-centred interventions that prevent, reduce, or delay the need for ongoing care.

About You

You are a compassionate and proactive Occupational Therapist with a genuine passion for enabling independence and improving quality of life. You combine strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a person-centred approach. Whether newly qualified or experienced, you are committed to professional growth and delivering evidence-based practice in partnership with residents, carers, and colleagues.

Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy and current HCPC registration.

  • Understanding of strength-based practice and its application within adult social care.

  • Knowledge of relevant legislation including the Care Act and Mental Capacity Act.

  • Experience or willingness to work with adults who have physical disabilities, sensory impairments, or complex health conditions.

  • Ability to assess for and recommend equipment, adaptations, and reablement interventions.

  • Strong interpersonal, organisational, and written communication skills.

  • For newly qualified OTs: commitment to completing a 12-month preceptorship and development programme supported by senior practitioners.

Contract & Salary

  • Position: Locum Occupational Therapist

  • Location: Brent Council, North West London

  • Pay rate: £29.85 per hour (Umbrella)

  • Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week

  • Contract length: Ongoing
