Location: Bromley Council
Contract Type: Locum / Temporary
Duration: 3 months
Salary: £negotiable
Start Date: ASAP
About the Role
Bromley Council is seeking a skilled and experienced Senior Social Worker to join our Children’s Social Work (CSW) team on a 3-month interim contract. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in delivering high-quality, child-focused social work within a local authority recognised for its commitment to supporting families and protecting children.
As a Senior Social Worker, you will manage a varied and complex caseload, providing expert guidance and support to children and families in need of protection, stability, and care. You will contribute to the development of strong, relationship-based practice and help shape positive outcomes for children and young people across Bromley.
Main Responsibilities
- Undertake complex assessments of children and families in accordance with statutory requirements and local procedures.
- Develop, implement, and review Child in Need, Child Protection, and Care Plans that promote safety, wellbeing, and permanency.
- Manage a caseload involving high levels of complexity and risk, ensuring all interventions are proportionate and evidence-based.
- Provide professional mentoring and support to less experienced social workers, promoting reflective and strengths-based practice.
- Work closely with children, families, and partner agencies to deliver effective, timely interventions and coordinated support.
- Prepare detailed, analytical reports for court proceedings, reviews, and case conferences.
- Ensure all casework reflects the child’s voice and prioritises their best interests in all decision-making.
- Contribute to reflective supervision, peer discussions, and continuous service improvement initiatives.
Requirements
- Essential qualification: Degree in Social Work (DipSW, CQSW, CSS, or equivalent).
- Registration: Registered with Social Work England.
- Substantial post-qualifying experience within children’s social care, particularly in safeguarding, assessment, and court work.
- Strong understanding of child protection legislation, statutory frameworks, and best practice standards.
- Proven ability to manage complex cases and provide professional support to colleagues.
- Excellent communication, assessment, and analytical skills.
- Commitment to relational, strengths-based, and trauma-informed practice.
- Ability to work flexibly and effectively within a fast-paced, multi-agency environment.
Why Join?
Bromley Council is proud of its strong, child-centred social work culture and supportive working environment. You’ll be joining a local authority that values its practitioners, offers reflective supervision, and is committed to continuous professional development.
This 3-month opportunity provides the chance to contribute to a forward-thinking service where your expertise, judgement, and leadership will make a real difference to the lives of children and families.
