Occupational Therapist (Locum)

Job Overview

We are recruiting a skilled and proactive Occupational Therapist to join Barnet Council within North London Social Services. This locum role sits within the Adult Social Care service and focuses on enabling independence and safety through major housing adaptations, manual handling assessments, and the provision of equipment and minor and major adaptations. You will work closely with service users, carers, housing teams, and partner agencies to deliver practical, person-centred solutions that support people to live safely and independently in their own homes.

Key Responsibilities

  •
  • Complete comprehensive functional assessments in line with the Care Act.

  • Participate in duty triage, screening, and signposting of referrals prior to allocation.

  • Assess for and recommend major housing adaptations, including level-access showers, stairlifts, and ramps.

  • Prescribe and arrange minor and major equipment to meet identified needs.

  • Undertake manual handling risk assessments and produce clear moving and handling plans.

  • Liaise with contractors, housing teams, and grants officers to progress adaptation works.

  • Maintain accurate case records and produce professional reports for funding, safeguarding, and statutory processes.

About You

You are an experienced Occupational Therapist with a strong background in adult social care and community-based practice. You bring excellent clinical reasoning, a practical and solution-focused approach, and confidence working with housing and adaptation pathways. You work well autonomously while contributing effectively within a multidisciplinary team and are committed to delivering high-quality, person-centred outcomes.

Requirements

  • Degree or diploma in Occupational Therapy with current HCPC registration (essential).

  • Experience working in community-based adult social care settings.

  • Strong knowledge of housing adaptations, equipment provision, and manual handling.

  • Familiarity with Disabled Facilities Grants (DFG) and related legislation.

  • Experience liaising with contractors, housing teams, and partner agencies.

  • Ability to use electronic case management systems.

  • Excellent communication, documentation, and organisational skills.

Contract & Salary

  • Job Type: Locum

  • Contract Length: Ongoing

  • Working Pattern: Hybrid – 1–2 days per week in the office, with in-person meetings every other week

  • Location: Barnet Council

  • Area: North London Social Services

  • Salary: £39.93 per hour (Umbrella)
