Paediatric Occupational Therapist

Location:

London Borough of Islington – North London Social Services

Brief Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Paediatric Occupational Therapist to join the London Borough of Islington’s Social Care Service on a locum basis. You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team that includes Social Workers, Physiotherapists, and Occupational Therapists, delivering high-quality, child-focused assessments and interventions to support children, young people, and their families within the community.

The role requires a proactive and skilled practitioner with experience in Disabled Facilities Grants (DFG), major adaptations, home safety equipment, and rehousing reports. You will play a key role in assessing and coordinating support for children with a range of physical, sensory, and developmental needs to promote independence and safety at home.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality paediatric occupational therapy assessments and interventions for children and young people with diverse needs.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team including Social Workers, Physiotherapists, and Health professionals.
  • Manage a caseload of varying complexity, ensuring timely and accurate care coordination and documentation.
  • Provide advice, recommendations, and interventions for home adaptations, specialist equipment, and rehousing assessments.
  • Prepare and contribute to Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) applications and reports.
  • Support triage and prioritisation of incoming referrals to ensure effective and efficient use of service resources.
  • Complete accurate case management information for service monitoring and planning purposes.
  • Promote the wellbeing, safety, and independence of service users and their families by identifying the most appropriate interventions and resources.
  • Comply with HCPC standards of proficiency for Occupational Therapists and maintain active registration through Continuous Professional Development (CPD).
  • Support less experienced staff or colleagues as directed by the Team Manager, providing professional guidance and mentorship on complex cases.

About You

You are an experienced Paediatric Occupational Therapist with a strong background in community-based social care. You have a child-centred approach and are confident managing complex cases requiring in-depth assessments and multi-agency collaboration.

You are a self-motivated professional who demonstrates excellent organisational, problem-solving, and communication skills. Your ability to manage priorities and deliver high-quality outcomes within a multidisciplinary setting makes you an integral part of the team.

Requirements

  • BSc (Hons) or Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
  • HCPC registration as an Occupational Therapist.
  • Significant post-qualification experience in paediatric social care.
  • Experience with DFG, major adaptations, home safety equipment, triaging referrals, and rehousing reports.
  • Strong understanding of children’s health and social care frameworks and safeguarding responsibilities.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and time management skills.
  • Commitment to Continuous Professional Development (CPD).
  • Ability to work flexibly within a 7-day service if required.

Contract & Salary

  • Job Type: Locum
  • Location: London Borough of Islington
  • Area: North London Social Services
  • Contract Length: Ongoing
  • Salary: £32.02 per hour
  • Working Hours: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday (09:00 – 17:00)
  • Code: U.RQ1637606.005011.XNEW

About the Service

This role forms part of a dynamic and collaborative multi-disciplinary team providing a holistic approach to supporting children and families in the community. The service focuses on empowering children to achieve independence, improving accessibility in their home environments, and ensuring families receive coordinated and effective support.

You will have access to professional supervision, ongoing learning opportunities, and the ability to work closely with colleagues across health and social care to deliver best practice in paediatric occupational therapy.
