Band 5 Locum Paediatric Dietitian
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Specialist Paediatric Dietitian to join our dedicated paediatric team. This role involves delivering a high-quality dietetic service to paediatric inpatients and outpatients, supporting children with a wide range of clinical and nutritional needs.
About the Role
As a key member of the multidisciplinary team, you will provide specialist nutritional assessment, diagnosis, and tailored treatment plans for paediatric patients referred by GPs, consultants, and other healthcare professionals.
You will act as a source of expert advice for patients, carers, and colleagues across hospital and community services, contributing to care planning, case discussions, and ongoing clinical decision-making. The role also includes supporting service development and delivering training to MDT members, professional partners, and students.
Key Responsibilities
-
Provide autonomous, specialist nutritional assessment and evidence-based dietetic treatment for paediatric inpatients and outpatients.
-
Work closely with the MDT on paediatric wards, offering timely input for referred patients.
-
Liaise with community teams to ensure smooth handover for children transitioning from inpatient to community care.
-
Interpret clinical information—including anthropometry, biochemistry, medical history, and diagnostic results—to develop accurate nutritional diagnoses.
-
Formulate individualised nutritional care plans and deliver complex dietetic advice to children, parents/carers, and healthcare professionals.
-
Communicate effectively, overcoming barriers such as learning difficulties, behavioural challenges, or sensory impairment.
-
Participate in paediatric clinics, case conferences, and multidisciplinary planning meetings.
-
Co-ordinate and set up home enteral feeding arrangements, liaising with community nursing teams, GPs, and home enteral feeding services.
-
Contribute to service development and specialist projects within paediatric dietetics.
-
Provide clinical cover for other paediatric dietitians during periods of leave.
Who We’re Looking For
-
A qualified Dietitian with strong clinical expertise in paediatrics.
-
Excellent communication skills and confidence working autonomously as well as within an MDT.
-
Ability to manage complex clinical information and develop tailored nutritional plans.
-
Strong organisational skills and a proactive approach to service improvement and training.
