Brief Job Overview

Tripod Partners are recruiting a Band 6 Paediatric Occupational Therapist for a locum role within South West London NHS. This position sits within a specialist children’s service, providing coordinated occupational therapy for children and young people aged 0–18 years with complex physical, developmental, and learning needs.

The Occupational Therapist will work across a range of settings including early years, mainstream schools, and specialist education environments. The role focuses on supporting children with significant functional difficulties in areas such as self-care, mobility, posture, and school-based activities, helping them achieve their potential and improve independence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a specialist caseload, delivering person-centred therapy programmes.
  • Work autonomously across community, clinic, and education settings.
  • Assess functional needs related to self-care, mobility, posture, and school activities.
  • Prepare detailed reports for EHCP processes and multidisciplinary assessments and reviews.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and provide specialist advice to other professionals.
  • Support and upskill parents, carers, and education staff through training and guidance.
  • Use a range of therapeutic approaches, including standardised and non-standardised assessments.
  • Participate in clinical audits, service development, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Support or supervise students and junior staff where appropriate.

About You

You will be a qualified Paediatric Occupational Therapist with experience working with
children and young people with complex physical and developmental needs. You will demonstrate strong
clinical reasoning skills and the ability to manage a varied caseload independently.

You will have a strong understanding of child development and be confident working collaboratively with
families, schools, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver effective, outcome-focused interventions.

Requirements

  • Recognised qualification in Occupational Therapy.
  • Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Experience working within paediatric occupational therapy services.
  • Knowledge of child development, neurodevelopment, and childhood occupations.
  • Experience with EHCP assessments and report writing.
  • Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate therapy programmes independently.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience supporting or supervising students or junior staff desirable.
  • Willingness to travel across service locations.
