MSK Physiotherapist – Band 7 (Locum)

Job Overview

We are recruiting an experienced Band 7 Musculoskeletal (MSK) Physiotherapist to join Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust, based at Broomfield within the Essex NHS. This locum role is within an MSK outpatient service and is required to start as soon as possible for an initial period of up to one month, with the potential for extension. The post involves advanced assessment and treatment of adults with both surgical and non-surgical MSK conditions, working autonomously within an outpatient setting.

 

Key Responsibilities

  •   
    • Undertake advanced physiotherapy assessments for patients with complex MSK presentations, including physical and psychological factors.
       

    • Formulate clinical diagnoses and develop, deliver, and evaluate individualised treatment programmes.
       

    • Assess and treat both surgical and non-surgical MSK outpatients using evidence-based practice.
       

    • Manage a defined caseload autonomously, taking responsibility for clinical decision-making.
       

    • Maintain accurate and timely clinical records in line with professional and Trust standards.
       

    • Contribute to service delivery within a specialist MSK outpatient setting.
       

    • Supervise, educate, and assess physiotherapy students to graduate standard, working in partnership with universities.
       

    • Participate in audit, research, and service evaluation activity to support service improvement.
       

    • Make recommendations to clinical leads or managers regarding service development and changes to practice.

     

    About You

     

    You are a highly experienced MSK Physiotherapist with strong clinical reasoning skills and confidence working autonomously in an outpatient environment. You are comfortable managing complex and chronic MSK presentations and contributing to education, audit, and service development. Your professional and organised approach supports high-quality patient care and effective service delivery.

     

    Requirements

     

    •  
      • Degree in Physiotherapy and current HCPC registration.
         

      • Extensive post-qualification experience within MSK outpatient physiotherapy.
         

      • Experience assessing and treating both surgical and non-surgical MSK conditions.
         

      • Ability to work autonomously and manage a complex caseload.
         

      • Experience supervising or supporting physiotherapy students.
         

      • Strong communication, documentation, and clinical reasoning skills.

       

      Contract & Salary

        

        • Job Type: Locum
           

        • Band: 7
           

        • Contract Length: Up to 1 month initially, with possible extension
           

        • Working Hours: Monday to Friday
           

        • Location: Broomfield – Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust
