    Job Overview

    We are seeking an experienced Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join the Intensive Rehab & Therapy Service at NELFT (North East London NHS Foundation Trust), working across Grays Court Community Hospital and Goodmayes Hospital. This locum position supports winter pressures, providing vital occupational therapy input within a community rehabilitation setting.  

     

    You’ll work autonomously to assess, treat, and plan discharges for patients, using recognised outcome measures and clinical reasoning to deliver safe, effective, and person-centred care.

     

    Key Responsibilities

    – Undertake comprehensive occupational therapy assessments of patients within the community rehabilitation service.  

    – Develop and implement evidence-based treatment and discharge plans tailored to individual patient needs.  

    – Support patients in regaining functional independence through adaptive strategies, equipment provision, and rehabilitation interventions.  

    – Apply clinical reasoning and recognised outcome measures to guide decision-making and evaluate progress.  

    – Confidently manage your own caseload, prioritising work to meet service demands.  

    – Contribute to safe and timely discharges by collaborating with multidisciplinary colleagues and community partners.  

    – Maintain accurate and timely clinical records in accordance with professional and organisational standards.  

    – Support the delivery of agile working across the therapy service to enhance efficiency and accessibility.  

     

    About You

    You’ll be a confident and proactive Occupational Therapist with post-qualification NHS experience, ideally in community rehabilitation. You’ll combine strong clinical reasoning and problem-solving skills with excellent communication and organisation, ensuring patients receive high-quality, outcome-focused care.  

     

    A flexible, adaptable approach and the ability to work independently while contributing to a multidisciplinary team are essential.

     

    Requirements

    – Degree (or equivalent) in Occupational Therapy  

    – Current HCPC registration  

    – Post-qualification NHS experience (essential)  

    – Previous experience in community rehabilitation (preferred)  

    – Excellent clinical reasoning and assessment skills  

    – Strong communication and organisational abilities  

    – UK driving licence and access to a car (preferred, due to community visits)
