Occupational Therapist – Band 6 (Locum)

Job Overview

We are recruiting an experienced Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join the Intensive Rehabilitation & Therapy Service at NELFT, working across Grays Court Community Hospital and Goodmayes Hospital within the North East London NHS. This locum role has been created to support winter pressures and focuses on delivering high-quality community rehabilitation, supporting patients through assessment, treatment, and discharge planning. The service operates with agile working arrangements and requires therapists who are confident working autonomously within community settings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake independent occupational therapy assessment, treatment, and discharge planning for patients within the community rehabilitation team.

  • Manage and prioritise your own caseload, planning treatment programmes in line with patient needs.

  • Use recognised outcome measures and sound clinical reasoning to guide and evaluate interventions.

  • Support patients to regain independence and function following illness, injury, or hospital admission.

  • Work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver coordinated rehabilitation and safe discharge.

  • Contribute to service delivery during periods of increased demand linked to winter pressures.

  • Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation in line with Trust and HCPC standards.

About You

You are a confident and adaptable Occupational Therapist with post-qualification experience, ideally within community or rehabilitation services. You bring strong assessment, clinical reasoning, and caseload management skills, and you are comfortable working independently in community environments. Your flexible approach and commitment to person-centred rehabilitation will support positive outcomes for patients during a busy service period.

Requirements

  • Degree or diploma in Occupational Therapy and current HCPC registration.

  • Post-qualification experience as an Occupational Therapist within the NHS.

  • Experience in community rehabilitation settings is desirable.

  • Confidence managing an autonomous caseload and planning treatment programmes.

  • Strong clinical reasoning, communication, and documentation skills.

  • Car driver with access to a vehicle is required.

Contract & Salary

  • Job Type: Locum

  • Band: 6

  • Contract Length: Ongoing

  • Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:30 – 16:30 (37.5 hours per week)

  • Part-Time: Considered – minimum 3 days per week (22.5 hours), dependent on experience

  • Location: Grays Court Community Hospital & Goodmayes Hospital – NELFT

  • Area: North East London NHS

  • Salary: Negotiable, dependent on experience

  • Job Code: U.GC5D1.011012
