Advanced Occupational Therapist – Band 7

Brief Job Overview

Tripod Partners are recruiting an experienced Band 7 Advanced Occupational Therapist for a locum opportunity with NELFT, based across Grays Court Community Hospital and Goodmayes Hospital, providing services throughout Redbridge, Havering, and Barking & Dagenham. Working within the North East London NHS Intensive Rehabilitation & Therapy Service, you will deliver urgent community-based Occupational Therapy interventions that prevent unnecessary hospital admissions, support rapid discharge, and enable people to remain safely within their own homes.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Band 7 Occupational Therapist with a strong background in community rehabilitation or rapid response services. You will manage complex clinical cases, provide specialist Occupational Therapy assessment and intervention, and work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, person-centred rehabilitation across three London boroughs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide urgent Occupational Therapy assessments and interventions to prevent unnecessary hospital admissions.
  • Deliver rapid response rehabilitation to stabilise individuals experiencing acute functional decline.
  • Assess functional ability, mobility, falls risk, and environmental factors within patients’ homes.
  • Recommend and implement immediate equipment, assistive technology, and therapeutic interventions to maximise independence and safety.
  • Develop person-centred rehabilitation plans that reduce admission risk and promote recovery within the community.
  • Support safe discharge pathways and contribute to reducing delays in transfer of care.
  • Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams to provide coordinated crisis intervention and urgent care planning.
  • Liaise with health, Adult Social Care, voluntary organisations, and community services to coordinate ongoing support.
  • Monitor patient outcomes, review interventions, and adapt rehabilitation plans to achieve the best possible outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and contribute to achieving service quality and performance targets.
  • Support the delivery of a seven-day rehabilitation service across Redbridge, Havering, and Barking & Dagenham.
  • Provide specialist Occupational Therapy expertise to colleagues and contribute to service development where appropriate.

About You

You will be a HCPC-registered Occupational Therapist with substantial post-qualification NHS experience, ideally gained within community rehabilitation, rapid response, Intermediate Care, or urgent community services. You will be confident managing complex cases autonomously while working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

You will possess excellent clinical reasoning, communication, leadership, and organisational skills, together with a proactive and patient-centred approach to delivering high-quality rehabilitation within community settings.

Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
  • Current HCPC registration.
  • Significant post-qualification NHS Occupational Therapy experience.
  • Experience within community rehabilitation, rapid response, Intermediate Care, or urgent community services.
  • Strong functional assessment, rehabilitation, falls prevention, and equipment provision skills.
  • Excellent clinical reasoning, communication, and multidisciplinary team-working abilities.
  • Ability to manage a complex caseload independently within a fast-paced community service.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential due to community working across three London boroughs.
  • Willingness to participate in a seven-day service.

Contract & Salary

  • Role: Advanced Occupational Therapist – Band 7
  • Sector: North East London NHS
  • Employer: NELFT
  • Service: Intensive Rehabilitation & Therapy Service
  • Contract Type: Locum
  • Contract Length: Ongoing
  • Salary: Negotiable
  • Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week, shifts between 09:00–17:00 (hours negotiable according to service demand).
  • Working Pattern: Seven-day service.
  • Location: Grays Court Community Hospital & Goodmayes Hospital – Covering Redbridge, Havering, and Barking & Dagenham.
