Team Manager – Children in Care

Role Overview

We are recruiting for an experienced Team Manager to lead a dedicated Children in Care Team. This is a full-time locum opportunity working 36 hours per week, Monday to Friday, on an initial 6-month assignment.

As Team Manager, you will provide leadership, supervision and operational oversight to a team of approximately seven Social Workers, ensuring high-quality statutory services are delivered to children in care. You will oversee complex casework, support professional development and ensure children receive effective care planning, permanency planning and positive outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

       

  • Provide day-to-day leadership, supervision and management to a team of approximately seven Social Workers, including ASYEs.
       

  • Oversee the management of children in care, ensuring statutory responsibilities and practice standards are met.
       

  • Support and quality assure care planning, permanency planning, life story work and direct work with children.
       

  • Provide oversight of complex court proceedings and ensure compliance with relevant legislation and statutory guidance.
       

  • Monitor team performance, workload allocation and service delivery to achieve positive outcomes for children.
       

  • Offer professional advice, coaching and reflective supervision to develop staff practice and performance.
       

  • Work collaboratively with partner agencies to promote effective multi-agency safeguarding and permanence planning.
       

  • Ensure accurate case recording, timely decision-making and compliance with organisational policies and procedures.

About You

You will be an experienced Children’s Social Care manager with a strong background in Children in Care services. You will have excellent leadership skills, extensive knowledge of children’s legislation and the ability to support, develop and inspire frontline practitioners while maintaining high standards of practice.

Requirements

       

  • Qualified Social Worker with current Social Work England registration.
       

  • Significant experience managing or supervising Children’s Social Care teams.
       

  • Extensive knowledge of court work, children’s legislation and statutory guidance.
       

  • Experience working within Children in Care services, including care planning, permanency planning, direct work and life story work.
       

  • Experience supervising Social Workers, including Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE) practitioners.
       

  • Excellent leadership, decision-making, communication and organisational skills.

Contract & Salary

       

  • Job Title: Team Manager – Children in Care
       

  • Hours: 36 hours per week, Monday to Friday
       

  • Contract: Initial 6-month locum assignment
       

  • Working Pattern: Hybrid – office attendance required 3 days per week.
       

  • Office Base: Romford Town Hall
       

  • Team Management: Approximately 7 Social Workers
       

  • Equipment: Laptop and mobile phone provided.
       

  • Salary: Negotiable (within London Pledge capped rates).
