Team Manager – Children’s Services (East Riding of Yorkshire Council)

Job Overview

We are recruiting an experienced **Team Manager (Qualified Social Worker)** to join **East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Children’s Services team**. In this leadership role, you will oversee a team of social workers and support staff, ensuring high-quality safeguarding practice, effective case management, and positive outcomes for children and families.

As Team Manager, you will provide professional supervision, manage complex caseloads, and lead continuous improvement across the service.

Key Responsibilities

Provide strong leadership and day-to-day management to a team of social workers and support staff.

Oversee complex safeguarding and child protection cases to ensure statutory compliance.

Allocate, monitor, and review caseloads to ensure effective workload distribution.

Deliver supervision, mentoring, and reflective practice support to team members.

Support staff development through coaching, training, and performance management.

Ensure assessments, care plans, and interventions are of a consistently high standard.

Prepare and present evidence-based reports for child protection conferences, reviews, and court proceedings.

Work in partnership with health, education, police, and voluntary sector colleagues to provide joined-up services.

Contribute to service audits, quality assurance, and ongoing improvement within Children’s Services.

About You

You are a confident and motivated leader with extensive experience in children’s services. You can manage staff effectively, oversee safeguarding practice, and drive service development while keeping children and families at the centre of your work.

Requirements

Qualified Social Worker (QSW) with registration to **Social Work England**.

Significant post-qualification experience within Children’s Services, including safeguarding and child protection.

Proven management or supervisory experience in a statutory social work setting.

Strong knowledge of child protection legislation, statutory frameworks, and best practice.

Excellent leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.

Ability to balance management responsibilities with oversight of complex casework.
