Working within the Devon NHS, you will provide specialist Occupational Therapy input across MSK and inpatient services within an acute hospital environment.

The role involves assessing, diagnosing, treating, and advising patients and their carers across a varied caseload of acute and chronic conditions. Many patients will present with complex disabilities and needs, with some services also involving terminal care. You will work as an autonomous practitioner within a multidisciplinary team, ensuring Occupational Therapy input is integrated into each patient’s overall care plan.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a varied caseload involving acute and chronic conditions, including patients with complex disabilities and multiple needs.
  • Provide appropriate Occupational Therapy input to patients receiving terminal care where required.
  • Work as an autonomous practitioner without direct supervision, using professional clinical reasoning to inform assessment and intervention.
  • Undertake lone working where required while maintaining safe and effective clinical practice.
  • Work as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team within the acute setting.
  • Ensure Occupational Therapy assessment and intervention is integrated into patients’ overall care plans.
  • Provide supervision, training, and support to junior staff and students.

  • Participate in on-call and weekend working where required by the service.
  • Maintain high professional standards and contribute to effective multidisciplinary communication.

About You

You will be an experienced Band 6 Occupational Therapist with the clinical confidence to work autonomously within an acute hospital environment. You will have strong assessment, treatment, and clinical reasoning skills and be comfortable managing patients with complex acute and chronic presentations.

You will be a strong team player who can contribute effectively to multidisciplinary working while also providing supervision and support to junior colleagues and students. A flexible approach to working patterns, including potential on-call and weekend duties, will be important.

Requirements

  • Relevant Occupational Therapy qualification.
  • Current HCPC registration.
  • Experience working within an acute hospital or inpatient setting.
  • Experience assessing and treating patients with acute and chronic conditions.
  • Experience working with patients presenting with complex disabilities and care needs.
  • Strong specialist Occupational Therapy assessment, treatment, and clinical reasoning skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously without direct supervision.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience providing supervision, training, or support to junior staff and students.
  • Strong communication, organisation, and record-keeping skills.
  • Flexible approach to service requirements, including potential on-call and weekend working.

Contract & Salary
