Specialist Physiotherapist – Band 6 (2 Roles)

Brief Job Overview

Tripod Partners are recruiting two experienced Band 6 Specialist Physiotherapists for locum opportunities within Devon NHS. Based at Torbay Hospital, part of Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust, these roles offer the opportunity to work across a variety of acute inpatient services, supporting patients with complex medical, surgical, and rehabilitation needs.

The successful candidates will primarily be based on Acute Medical and Surgical Wards, while also providing cover within the Emergency Department and Short Stay Units. This is an excellent opportunity for physiotherapists with strong acute hospital experience who thrive in a fast-paced multidisciplinary environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide specialist physiotherapy assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation for patients across acute inpatient services.
• Manage a varied caseload on acute medical and surgical wards.
• Support patient care within the Emergency Department and Short Stay Units as required.
• Develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans to optimise recovery and functional outcomes.
• Undertake respiratory assessments and interventions where appropriate.
• Support early mobilisation, rehabilitation, and discharge planning initiatives.
• Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality patient-centred care.
• Contribute to safe and timely discharge planning processes.
• Undertake Mental Capacity Assessments (MCA) and contribute to Best Interest decision-making where required.
• Provide supervision, support, and guidance to junior staff and students where appropriate.
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with HCPC and NHS standards.

About You

You will be an experienced Physiotherapist with a strong background in acute hospital settings, including medical and surgical inpatient services. Experience in respiratory physiotherapy and acute rehabilitation would be highly advantageous.

You will be confident managing a complex caseload, working autonomously, and contributing effectively to multidisciplinary teams within a busy acute environment.

Requirements

• Degree or Diploma in Physiotherapy.
• Current HCPC registration.
• Previous experience working across acute hospital settings.
• Experience within acute medical and surgical inpatient services.
• Respiratory physiotherapy skills desirable.
• Knowledge of rehabilitation and discharge planning processes.
• Ability to undertake Mental Capacity Assessments and contribute to Best Interest decisions is advantageous.
• Supervisory or mentoring experience desirable.
• Strong communication, organisational, and multidisciplinary team-working skills.
• Ability to prioritise and manage a varied caseload within a fast-paced environment.
