Physiotherapist – Band 6 (Locum)

 

Job Overview

 

We are recruiting an experienced Band 6 Physiotherapist to join County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, based at Bishop Auckland Hospital within the North East NHS. This locum role is to start as soon as possible and sits within adult inpatient physiotherapy services. The post involves managing a mixed inpatient caseload across elderly care, rehabilitation, and elective orthopaedics, supporting safe recovery and effective discharge planning across ward settings.

 

Key Responsibilities

  •   
    • Manage a varied inpatient caseload across elderly care, rehabilitation, and orthopaedic wards.
       

    • Assess, diagnose, plan, implement, and evaluate physiotherapy programmes for patients with complex physical, psychological, and social needs.
       

    • Deliver physiotherapy interventions for patients with neuro, frailty, and orthopaedic presentations.
       

    • Work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team to support timely treatment and safe discharge from hospital.
       

    • Apply specialised physiotherapy skills to manage highly complex patients across two wards.
       

    • Participate in 7-day working, including weekends and bank holidays.
       

    • Support service delivery through a flexible approach to meet inpatient physiotherapy demands.
       

    • Contribute to the clinical education of qualified staff, physiotherapy assistants, and undergraduate students.

     

    About You

    You are a confident and capable Physiotherapist with strong inpatient experience and a solid grounding from rotational Band 5 practice. You are comfortable managing complex adult caseloads and working within busy ward environments. You bring excellent clinical reasoning, communication, and team-working skills and are committed to delivering high-quality inpatient physiotherapy.

     

    Requirements

      

      • Degree in Physiotherapy and current HCPC registration.
         

      • Completion of rotational Band 5 experience.
         

      • Previous experience working within the NHS.
         

      • Experience managing mixed inpatient caseloads, including neuro, frailty, and orthopaedics.
         

      • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary ward-based team.
         

      • Knowledge of electronic patient record systems is desirable.
