Clinical Pharmacist – Band 8

Role Overview

 

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Clinical Pharmacist to join an acute hospital service in County Durham on a locum basis. This Band 8 position offers an excellent opportunity for a motivated pharmacist to apply their clinical expertise in both ward and dispensary settings, contributing to the safe, effective, and efficient use of medicines across patient services.

 

Main Duties & Responsibilities

 

  • Provide a high-quality clinical pharmacy service to acute hospital wards, ensuring safe and appropriate use of medicines.
  • Deliver expert advice to multidisciplinary teams to support effective patient care and medicines optimisation.
     

  • Undertake medication reviews, medicines reconciliation, and discharge counselling.
     

  • Carry out dispensary duties, including clinical screening and accuracy checking, in line with trust policies.
     

  • Contribute to clinical governance, audits, and service development initiatives.

 

Requirements

 

  • Registered Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
  • Demonstrated experience within acute hospital ward and dispensary areas.
     

  • Postgraduate qualification in Hospital Pharmacy and/or Independent Prescribing qualification preferred.
     

  • Strong clinical knowledge, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
     

  • Prior NHS experience essential.
