Occupational Therapist

Brief Job Overview

Tripod Partners are recruiting an experienced Occupational Therapist for a locum opportunity with Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council. Working within North East Social Services, you will support adults with a wide range of disabilities, delivering specialist Occupational Therapy assessments and interventions that promote independence and enable people to remain safely within their own homes and communities.

This is an excellent opportunity for an Occupational Therapist with a strong Adult Social Care background who enjoys managing a varied and complex community caseload. The role offers flexible hybrid working, allowing you to work from home between community visits or from council offices, while delivering high-quality, person-centred Occupational Therapy services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a busy community caseload of adults with a wide range of physical, sensory, and complex disabilities.
  • Undertake comprehensive Occupational Therapy assessments within community settings to promote independence and wellbeing.
  • Complete Moving and Handling Risk Assessments, including the application of single-handed care principles where appropriate.
  • Assess posture and recommend suitable seating solutions to maximise comfort, function, and safety.
  • Undertake complex Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) assessments and prepare detailed housing adaptation recommendations.
  • Provide specialist advice on major and minor housing adaptations and accessibility solutions.
  • Complete Blue Badge eligibility assessments in accordance with relevant guidance.
  • Assess, prescribe, and review specialist equipment and adaptations to support independent living.
  • Work autonomously while contributing effectively within multidisciplinary teams and wider Adult Social Care services.
  • Apply positive risk-taking and proportionality principles when making professional decisions and recommendations.
  • Maintain accurate and timely electronic case records using Liquidlogic and, where applicable, the ELMS equipment portal.
  • Work collaboratively with health professionals, housing services, carers, and partner agencies to achieve positive outcomes.

About You

You will be a HCPC-registered Occupational Therapist with experience working within Adult Social Care and managing a diverse community caseload. You will have excellent assessment and clinical reasoning skills, together with experience recommending equipment, adaptations, and housing solutions that maximise independence.

You will be confident working independently, managing competing priorities, and building effective working relationships across multidisciplinary teams.

Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
  • Current HCPC registration.
  • Experience working within Adult Social Care or community Occupational Therapy services.
  • Experience undertaking Moving and Handling Risk Assessments, including single-handed care approaches.
  • Knowledge of seating assessments, specialist equipment, and environmental adaptations.
  • Experience completing Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) assessments and housing recommendations.
  • Knowledge of Blue Badge assessments and equipment provision.
  • Experience using Liquidlogic and ELMS is desirable.
  • Ability to manage a busy autonomous community caseload.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to your own transport are essential.

Contract & Salary

  • Role: Occupational Therapist
  • Sector: North East Social Services
  • Employer: Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council
  • Contract Type: Locum
  • Contract Length: 3 months with the possibility of extension
  • Salary: Negotiable
  • Working Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday
  • Working Pattern: Hybrid working, with flexibility to work from home between community visits or from council offices.
  • Location: Stockton-on-Tees
  • Reference Code: U. CSA 5300717.028007.B20751
