Team Manager – Adult Services

Location: Milton Keynes Council

Contract Type: Locum / Temporary

Duration: 3 months

Salary: £negotiable

Start Date: ASAP

About the Role

Milton Keynes Council is seeking an experienced and proactive Team Manager to join our Adult Services team on a 3-month interim contract. This is an excellent opportunity for a confident leader with strong social care experience to manage and support a team delivering high-quality, person-centred services to adults across the borough.

As a Team Manager, you will be responsible for providing operational and professional leadership, ensuring that your team delivers effective, strengths-based support to adults with care and support needs. You’ll work collaboratively with colleagues and partner agencies to promote independence, choice, and wellbeing for service users while maintaining a strong focus on performance, quality, and compliance.

Main Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day leadership, supervision, and direction to a team of social workers and practitioners within Adult Services.

  • Ensure high standards of practice in assessment, care planning, and service delivery, in line with the Care Act 2014 and local policies.

  • Monitor and manage team performance, ensuring statutory timescales, key performance indicators, and quality standards are met.

  • Promote a strengths-based, person-centred approach that supports adults to live independently and achieve their personal goals.

  • Oversee complex cases, providing expert advice and decision-making support to staff.

  • Ensure effective safeguarding of adults at risk, including oversight of enquiries and protection plans.

  • Work collaboratively with internal teams, health services, and partner organisations to ensure joined-up, holistic support for service users.

  • Contribute to service development, policy implementation, and continuous improvement initiatives within Adult Services.

  • Manage budgets and resources effectively to ensure value for money and efficient service delivery.

Requirements

  • Essential qualification: Degree in Social Work (DipSW, CQSW, or equivalent).

  • Registration: Registered with Social Work England.

  • Significant post-qualifying experience in adult social care, including complex casework and team leadership.

  • Strong understanding of the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005, and related legislation.

  • Proven ability to manage, motivate, and develop a diverse team of practitioners.

  • Excellent organisational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience of partnership working across health, housing, and community sectors.

  • Commitment to promoting independence, dignity, and choice for adults.

Why Join?

Milton Keynes Council offers a dynamic, supportive environment that values strong leadership and high professional standards. As a temporary Team Manager, you’ll play a key role in shaping service delivery, driving continuous improvement, and ensuring the best possible outcomes for adults in need of support.

This is a fantastic opportunity to bring your leadership experience and professional expertise to a forward-thinking local authority with a clear commitment to innovation, inclusion, and excellence in adult social care.

Interested? Apply today to join Milton Keynes Council’s Adult Services as a Team Manager and make a lasting difference in the lives of adults and their families.
