Occupational Therapist

Brief Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Occupational Therapist to join Hammersmith and Fulham Council’s Adult Social Services in West London on an ongoing locum contract. This role involves managing a clinical caseload of residents with complex and multiple conditions, providing expert assessment, intervention, and advice to help them maintain independence and improve their quality of life.

As part of the Complex Occupational Therapy Team, you will also provide leadership, guidance, and mentoring to unqualified staff, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, person-centred care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a diverse caseload of residents with complex physical, psychological, neurological, and behavioural conditions.
  • Undertake Occupational Therapy assessments to identify functional needs and design tailored interventions to promote independence and wellbeing.
  • Advise residents, carers, and professionals on adaptations, equipment, and rehabilitation strategies to maximise safety and accessibility.
  • Work in accordance with statutory legislation including the Care Act 2014, Disabled Persons Act 1986, Children Act 1989, National Health Service and Community Care Act 1990, Disability Discrimination Act 1995, and Housing Grants, Construction and Regeneration Act 1996.
  • Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams including social workers, housing officers, and health professionals to ensure holistic service delivery.
  • Provide mentoring and leadership to unqualified staff within the team, supporting their professional development and ensuring best practice standards.
  • Develop and implement rehabilitation and care plans, monitoring progress and reviewing outcomes regularly.
  • Participate in case conferences, reviews, and multi-agency meetings as required.
  • Contribute to service improvement initiatives and promote a culture of continuous learning and professional development.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed clinical records, ensuring compliance with local authority and professional guidelines.

About You

You are a qualified and compassionate Occupational Therapist with a passion for helping individuals achieve independence and live fulfilling lives. You bring strong assessment and problem-solving skills, clinical expertise, and a collaborative approach to multidisciplinary working. You are confident managing complex cases and thrive in a role that combines both hands-on clinical work and leadership responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Qualified Occupational Therapist with current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Significant post-qualified experience within Adult Social Care or community-based occupational therapy settings.
  • Experience managing complex caseloads involving physical, neurological, or age-related conditions.
  • Good working knowledge of the Care Act 2014 and other relevant legislation and policy frameworks.
  • Experience providing mentoring or supervision to unqualified or junior staff.
  • Excellent communication, assessment, and report-writing skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and manage competing priorities effectively.
  • Strong commitment to person-centred and outcome-focused practice.

  • Location: Hammersmith and Fulham, West London
  • Service Area: Adult Social Care – Complex Occupational Therapy Team
  • Contract Length: Ongoing (initially 12 weeks)
  • Salary: £36 per hour (negotiable, dependent on experience)
