Speech and Language Therapist – Band 6/7

Brief Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Speech and Language Therapist (Band 6 or 7) to join the United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust, based at Leeds General Infirmary.

This locum position is ideal for an experienced therapist with specialist expertise in stroke and neurological rehabilitation. You will provide high-quality, evidence-based assessment and therapy to adults recovering from stroke and other acquired neurological conditions, supporting communication and swallowing rehabilitation within an acute and community setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver specialist speech and language therapy assessments and interventions for adults with communication and swallowing difficulties following stroke or other neurological conditions.
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team (MDT) to develop and implement effective care and rehabilitation plans.
  • Provide individualised therapy to optimise patients’ communication, cognitive-communication, and swallowing outcomes.
  • Advise and support patients, carers, and healthcare professionals on communication strategies and dysphagia management.
  • Contribute to multidisciplinary goal-setting and discharge planning.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in line with HCPC and NHS Trust standards.
  • Use evidence-based practice and clinical reasoning to guide assessment and treatment planning.
  • Participate in clinical supervision, service evaluation, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Travel to community settings as required to deliver ongoing patient care.

About You

You are an experienced and compassionate Speech and Language Therapist with a strong background in stroke and neurorehabilitation. You are confident in assessing and managing communication and swallowing difficulties, and you work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams to achieve the best outcomes for your patients. You are flexible, organised, and committed to high clinical standards.

Requirements

  • Qualified Speech and Language Therapist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Post-qualification experience within an acute or community stroke setting – essential.
  • Experience supporting patients with neurological communication and swallowing disorders – desirable.
  • Excellent assessment, intervention, and documentation skills.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and prioritise workload effectively.
  • Car driver essential due to travel between sites and community visits.
  • Commitment to evidence-based practice and continuing professional development.

Contract & Salary

  • Job Type: Locum
  • Location: United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust – Leeds General Infirmary
  • Area: East Midlands NHS
  • Contract Length: Ongoing (initial 3-month placement)
  • Salary: £Negotiable, dependent on experience and banding
  • Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:00 – 16:00
  • Banding: Band 6 or Band 7 (depending on experience)
