Occupational Therapist – Band 6 (Locum)

Job Overview

We are looking for an experienced Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board team at Ty Llywelyn, Bryn Y Neuadd in the North Wales NHS. This locum position is a two-month assignment focused on supporting individuals within mental health services. The successful candidate will deliver high-quality occupational therapy interventions, conduct comprehensive assessments, and contribute to service users’ recovery and rehabilitation. Experience in a forensic mental health setting is desirable, and you will also have the opportunity to supervise junior staff within a supportive multidisciplinary environment.

Key Responsibilities

  •
  • Provide Occupational Therapy assessment and intervention for adults within mental health services, using both standardised and non-standardised tools.

  • Develop and implement person-centred treatment plans to support recovery, independence, and engagement in meaningful activity.

  • Contribute to multidisciplinary care planning, offering specialist advice and professional insight to colleagues and service users.

  • Apply evidence-based practice to deliver high-quality therapeutic interventions in accordance with clinical governance standards.

  • Supervise and support junior staff, assistants, and students, promoting professional development and reflective practice.

  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential documentation in line with NHS and professional standards.

  • Participate in team meetings, handovers, and service improvement initiatives as part of an integrated care approach.

About You

You are an adaptable and motivated Occupational Therapist with strong experience in mental health services. You are confident in using both standardised and non-standardised assessments and have a person-centred approach to care. Experience within a forensic mental health setting would be beneficial, though not essential. You’ll bring enthusiasm, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver positive outcomes for service users.

Requirements

  •
  • Degree or diploma in Occupational Therapy and current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

  • Previous NHS experience within mental health services.

  • Desirable experience within a forensic mental health environment.

  • Proficiency in conducting both standardised and non-standardised assessments and interventions.

  • Ability to manage a varied caseload and work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

  • Experience in supervising and supporting junior Occupational Therapy staff.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with attention to accurate documentation and professional reporting.
