Introduction:
Barnsley Council is seeking a committed and experienced Looked After Children (LAC) Social Worker to support children and young people in care. This role involves working closely with children placed in foster care, residential homes, or kinship arrangements, ensuring their emotional, educational, and physical needs are met. We are proud to offer a supportive environment with a strong focus on relationship-based practice and child-centred outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a caseload of looked after children, ensuring timely statutory visits, reviews, and care planning in line with legislation and guidance.

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with children and their carers, advocating for their rights, stability, and long-term outcomes.

  • Prepare high-quality reports for Looked After Children Reviews, Court proceedings, and care planning meetings.

  • Work in partnership with carers, schools, health, and other professionals to support placement stability and promote the well-being of each child.

Requirements:

  • Social Work degree and registration with Social Work England

  • Experience working with looked after children or within statutory children’s services

  • Good knowledge of the Children Act 1989, care planning regulations, and permanency planning

  • Strong communication, report writing, and direct work skills
