Speech and Language Therapist – Band 6 (Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust)

Job Overview

We are looking for an experienced and compassionate Speech and Language Therapist (Band 6) to join the Learning Disability Partnership within Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust, based at Hereward Hall, March. This locum role focuses primarily on dysphagia assessment and management, providing specialist input to adults with learning disabilities in community and home settings.

Working as part of a supportive multidisciplinary team, you will assess communication and swallowing needs, develop management plans, and provide training and guidance to families, carers, and support staff. This hybrid role includes both remote work and regular visits to service users in their homes.

Key Responsibilities

  •
    • Undertake detailed dysphagia assessments and develop evidence-based management plans for individuals with learning disabilities.

    • Provide specialist advice and training to support staff, family carers, and other professionals on safe eating, drinking, and swallowing practices.

    • Contribute to individual care planning by developing strategies that promote safety, wellbeing, and independence.

    • Work collaboratively with the Learning Disability Partnership team, including occupational therapists, psychologists, nurses, and physiotherapists.

    • Deliver intervention sessions to improve communication and swallowing function, adapting techniques to suit individual needs.

    • Participate in multi-disciplinary reviews and meetings to ensure cohesive and person-centred care delivery.

    • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with Trust policies, RCSLT guidelines, and professional standards.

    • Support ongoing service development by contributing to audits, supervision, and professional learning activities.

    About You

You are a dedicated and empathetic Speech and Language Therapist with strong dysphagia skills and a passion for improving the lives of adults with learning disabilities. You are confident working independently in community settings, adaptable to hybrid working arrangements, and skilled in delivering training and practical guidance to families and carers. Your communication and teamwork skills ensure you provide effective, person-centred care.

    Requirements

      • Degree in Speech and Language Therapy with current HCPC registration.

      • Dysphagia training and clinical experience are essential.

      • Experience working with adults with learning disabilities is desirable but not essential.

      • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage families, carers, and professionals.

      • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a hybrid caseload.

      • Ability to work independently while contributing to a multidisciplinary team.

      • Full UK driving licence and access to transport for community visits preferred.

      Contract & Salary

      • Position: Locum Speech and Language Therapist – Band 6

      • Location: Hereward Hall, March – Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust

      • Area: Cambridgeshire NHS

      • Pay rate: Negotiable (dependent on experience)

      • Hours: Full-time preferred (09:00 – 17:00), part-time or flexible arrangements considered for highly experienced candidates
