Job Details:
Manchester City Council is seeking a Band 6 Occupational Therapist to work with adults with learning disabilities (LD) and autism. This is a city-wide role, providing assessment, intervention, and support to optimise independence and care within supported living settings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess the level of care provided to adults with LD and autism in supported living or those transitioning into supported living.

  • Undertake moving and handling risk assessments and provide training to carers.

  • Support citizens through sensory and environmental interventions, equipment provision, adaptations, and assistive technology to enhance independence.

  • Provide assessments to determine the suitability of accommodation for individuals moving into or out of supported living, based on their needs.

  • Contribute to behaviour management planning and strategies to support citizens with challenging behaviours.

  • Work collaboratively with the Social Work LD team, Health LD therapists, and other professionals to ensure a holistic, person-centred approach.

  • Report directly to the Moving and Handling Optimisation Team Manager (OT) within the Principal Occupational Therapy Team.

Requirements:

  • HCPC registration as an Occupational Therapist.

  • Degree in Occupational Therapy.

  • Experience working with adults with learning disabilities and autism.

  • Knowledge and skills in managing challenging behaviours.

  • Experience in moving and handling, including risk assessments and training.

  • Experience in single-handed care (desirable).

  • Car driver with full, valid licence (essential).
