Occupational Therapist (2 Roles)
Job Overview
We are recruiting two Occupational Therapists to join Newcastle City Council, based at Westgate Community College within the North East Social Services area. These locum roles offer an excellent opportunity to support individuals within the community, helping them to maintain independence, improve daily living, and enhance their overall quality of life.
Working as part of a supportive and collaborative team, you will carry out assessments, recommend interventions, and coordinate care plans that promote safe and independent living for residents across Newcastle.
Key Responsibilities
– Undertake holistic occupational therapy assessments to identify physical, functional, and environmental needs.
– Develop and implement person-centred intervention plans to support independence and wellbeing.
– Provide recommendations for adaptations, equipment, or assistive technology to enhance safety at home.
– Liaise with service users, carers, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure effective support and continuity of care.
– Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in line with professional and organisational standards.
– Contribute to service development and improvement within Newcastle City Council’s community-based services.
– Support a caseload efficiently, managing priorities and deadlines within a fast-paced social care environment.
About You
You’ll be a compassionate and proactive Occupational Therapist with experience in adult social care or community-based services. You’ll demonstrate strong assessment and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to communicate effectively with service users, families, and colleagues.
Your approach will be person-centred, focused on enabling individuals to live safely and independently at home.
Requirements
– Degree (or equivalent) in Occupational Therapy
– Current HCPC registration
– Previous experience in social care or community occupational therapy (essential)
– Strong knowledge of equipment provision, adaptations, and legislation relating to social care (preferred)
– Excellent communication and time management skills
– Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
Contract & Salary
– Contract type: Locum
– Contract length: Ongoing
– Working hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 09:00 – 17:00
– Location: Newcastle City Council – Westgate Community College (North East Social Services)
– Salary: Negotiable, dependent on experience
