The London Borough of Harrow is currently seeking an experienced Occupational Therapist to join its Community Health and Wellbeing Service on an ongoing locum basis.

The successful candidate will work with adults and children with physical disabilities and learning disabilities, providing specialist occupational therapy support to promote independence, prevent unnecessary care needs and enable individuals to remain safely in their own homes.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as the allocated Occupational Therapist for adults and children with physical and learning disabilities.

• Assess, develop, review and monitor individual care plans relating to adaptations, equipment and moving and handling.

• Provide preventative, strength-based support focused on promoting independence and enabling individuals to take greater responsibility for their own care.

• Identify practical solutions to support citizens to remain safely and independently in their own homes.

• Commission appropriate adaptations and equipment to support individuals and their carers to achieve their full potential for independent living.

• Liaise effectively with statutory and voluntary organisations, both locally and nationally.

• Act as a Duty Officer, providing advice and consultation to internal care management teams, external health and social care professionals and members of the public.

• Provide specialist advice regarding disability, equipment solutions and moving and handling.

• Screen and assess referrals into the service, ensuring appropriate and timely responses.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Occupational Therapy qualification with current HCPC registration.

• Experience working within a community or social care Occupational Therapy setting.

• Experience supporting adults and/or children with physical disabilities and learning disabilities.

• Strong knowledge of equipment, adaptations and moving and handling.

• Experience working within a strengths-based, person-centred approach.

• Excellent assessment, care planning and risk-management skills.

• Ability to work collaboratively with health, social care and voluntary-sector professionals.

• Strong communication and organisational skills.

• Ability to manage a varied caseload and work independently.
