Hackney Council is seeking an experienced Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) to join our Children’s Services on a 3-month contract. The successful candidate will have at least 3 years of relevant experience and current Social Work England (SWE) registration. This role is key to safeguarding the welfare of looked-after children by ensuring effective care planning and review processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Chair statutory reviews for looked-after children, ensuring care plans meet their needs and promote positive outcomes.

  • Monitor the progress and effectiveness of care plans, advocating for children’s best interests.

  • Liaise with social workers, carers, families, and partner agencies to coordinate care and support.

  • Ensure the voices of children and young people are heard and considered in decision-making.

  • Maintain detailed records and produce reports in line with statutory requirements and local policies.

Essential Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in children’s social work or related roles.

  • Current registration with Social Work England (SWE).

  • Strong knowledge of statutory frameworks and safeguarding procedures.

  • Excellent communication, organisation, and advocacy skills.
