Occupational Therapist – Mobility Assessor

 

Job Overview

We are recruiting a skilled and experienced Occupational Therapist – Mobility Assessor to join the London Borough of Hackney within the North East London Social Services. This locum role focuses on carrying out assessments and observations to determine eligibility for Blue Badges in line with government criteria, ensuring fair and consistent decision-making for residents.  

 

Working within a supportive multidisciplinary environment, you’ll play a key role in assessing mobility needs, providing walking equipment where appropriate, and connecting service users with the right services to promote independence and accessibility.

 

Key Responsibilities

– Conduct face-to-face and observational assessments to determine eligibility for Blue Badges, in accordance with government guidance.  

– Evaluate mobility, endurance, and functional ability using clinical reasoning and professional expertise.  

– Provide walking aids and other mobility equipment where required to support safe and independent movement.  

– Offer advice, information, and signposting to other relevant services, ensuring individuals receive holistic support.  

– Maintain accurate and detailed records in line with professional and local authority standards.  

– Liaise with internal teams, health professionals, and external agencies to ensure coordinated, person-centred care.  

– Contribute to continuous service improvement and uphold best practice in accessibility and mobility assessment.  

 

About You

You’ll be a confident and empathetic Occupational Therapist with experience in mobility assessment, community work, or equipment provision. You’ll have strong communication and clinical reasoning skills, with the ability to assess individuals fairly and sensitively while working within policy frameworks.  

 

Your commitment to promoting independence, accessibility, and inclusion will be central to your approach.

 

Requirements

– Degree (or equivalent) in Occupational Therapy  

– Current HCPC registration  

– Previous experience working in mobility assessment, equipment provision, or community-based OT (essential)  

– Strong understanding of the Blue Badge eligibility criteria and assessment process  

– Excellent assessment, communication, and interpersonal skills  

– Ability to work independently and collaboratively with partner agencies  

– Commitment to equality, diversity, and high professional standards  

 

Contract & Salary

Contract type: Locum  

Contract length: Ongoing  

Working hours: Full time, Monday to Friday (may vary)  

Location: London Borough of Hackney, North East London Social Services  

Salary: £32 per hour
