Job Overview
We are recruiting an experienced Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join the Older Persons Assessment and Liaison Team at University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust – The Royal Bournemouth Hospital, within the South West NHS. This locum role focuses on providing specialist assessments, interventions, and discharge planning for older adults, supporting safe transitions of care and promoting independence. You will work within a dynamic multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced clinical environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out detailed occupational therapy assessments for older adults presenting with a range of physical, cognitive, and functional needs.
- Develop and deliver personalised treatment plans aimed at improving safety, independence, and overall wellbeing.
- Work collaboratively within the Older Persons Assessment and Liaison service to support timely and coordinated decision-making.
- Contribute to safe discharge planning, liaising with community services, families, and social care colleagues where required.
- Monitor patient progress, adapt interventions as needed, and ensure accurate, professional clinical documentation.
- Promote best practice and contribute to the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care for older people.
About You
You are an empathetic and knowledgeable Occupational Therapist with experience working in acute or older persons services. You will have strong assessment and problem-solving skills, alongside the ability to manage a varied caseload efficiently. Your collaborative working style and commitment to evidence-based practice will support the effective delivery of occupational therapy within this specialist service.
Requirements

- Degree or diploma in Occupational Therapy and registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
- Experience working in acute hospital settings or with older persons services.
- Strong assessment, discharge planning, and intervention skills.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and documentation abilities.
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Commitment to delivering high-quality, person-centred care.
