View JobManchester City Council is seeking a skilled and experienced Locum Best Interests Assessor (BIA) to support its Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) function. You will play a key role in protecting the rights of adults lacking capacity, ensuring all DoLS authorisations are completed lawfully, proportionately, and in the person’s best interests. This role requires confidence in decision-making and strong working knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act 2005.
Key Responsibilities:

Undertake DoLS assessments: Complete Best Interests Assessments in care homes and hospital settings in accordance with statutory guidance and timescales.

Ensure legal and ethical compliance: Make clear, evidence-based recommendations around deprivation of liberty, ensuring actions are necessary and proportionate.

Engage with multi-agency professionals: Liaise with doctors, advocates, providers, and family members to gather comprehensive assessment information.

Produce clear, defensible reports: Document assessments to a high legal standard for submission to supervisory bodies and authorising panels.
