Physiotherapist – Band 6 (University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust)
Job Overview
We are looking for a dedicated and professional Physiotherapist (Band 6) to join the Older Persons Team at The Royal Bournemouth Hospital, part of the University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust. This locum position offers the opportunity to support older adults in achieving improved mobility, independence, and quality of life through effective, evidence-based physiotherapy interventions.
Working as part of a compassionate and multidisciplinary NHS team, you will assess, plan, and deliver rehabilitation programmes tailored to each patient’s individual needs, helping them to recover safely and confidently. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your clinical expertise in an acute hospital setting.
Key Responsibilities
-
- Undertake comprehensive physiotherapy assessments for older adults to identify functional limitations and rehabilitation goals.
- Design and implement individualised treatment plans to support mobility, strength, balance, and independence.
- Work collaboratively with occupational therapists, nurses, doctors, and discharge teams to ensure integrated and effective patient care.
- Provide education and advice to patients and carers on exercise, mobility aids, and safe movement techniques.
- Contribute to safe discharge planning, supporting transitions from hospital to community settings.
- Monitor patient progress, review outcomes, and adapt interventions as required.
- Maintain accurate documentation in line with NHS Trust policies and HCPC professional standards.
- Work shift patterns from 08:00 to 16:00 as part of the Older Persons Therapy Service.
About You
You are a compassionate and skilled Physiotherapist with a genuine passion for supporting older people in achieving independence and improving functional outcomes. You have excellent communication and clinical reasoning skills, a collaborative approach to teamwork, and the confidence to make professional decisions within an acute care environment.
Requirements
-
- Degree or Diploma in Physiotherapy with current HCPC registration.
- Experience working in an acute hospital or older persons rehabilitation setting.
- Strong understanding of mobility, falls prevention, and post-acute rehabilitation principles.
- Excellent communication, organisational, and documentation skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and evidence-based practice.
