    Job Overview

    Barking and Dagenham Council is seeking a compassionate and motivated Paediatric Occupational Therapy Assistant to join its Children’s Occupational Therapy Service on a locum basis. The successful candidate will support qualified Occupational Therapists in delivering high-quality, person-centred interventions that promote independence, choice, and wellbeing for children and young people with physical, sensory, or developmental needs.  

     

    Key Responsibilities

    – Support Occupational Therapists in completing holistic, person-centred assessments in line with the Care Act 2014 and Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT) standards.  

    – Assist in implementing tailored therapy plans and interventions that promote functional independence in daily activities.  

    – Work closely with children, families, and carers to encourage participation, skill development, and confidence.  

    – Provide advice, guidance, and practical support to service users under the supervision of a qualified Occupational Therapist.  

    – Support the provision and fitting of adaptive equipment and minor adaptations as required.  

    – Maintain accurate and timely records of interventions and outcomes in line with professional and service standards.  

    – Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across education, health, and social care to achieve positive outcomes for children and families.  

     

    About You

    You’ll be an empathetic and enthusiastic individual with experience supporting children or young people with disabilities or additional needs. You’ll have strong communication skills, a positive approach to teamwork, and a passion for helping children reach their full potential.

     

    Requirements

    – Previous experience in a paediatric or social care setting (essential)  

    – Understanding of child development and occupational therapy principles  

    – Excellent interpersonal and communication skills  

    – Ability to work flexibly and respond effectively to the needs of children and families  

    – Basic IT and record-keeping skills  

    – Ability to work under the supervision of a registered Occupational Therapist  

    – Knowledge of the Care Act 2014 and person-centred approaches (desirable)  

     

    Contract & Salary

    Contract type: Locum  

    Contract length: Ongoing  

    Working hours: Full time, Monday to Friday  

    Location: Barking and Dagenham Council, East London  

    Salary: £22.54 per hour (negotiable depending on experience)
