Job Overview
We are recruiting a skilled Band 6 Specialist Paediatric Speech and Language Therapist to join NELFT at the Kenwood Gardens Clinic, Redbridge, within the East London NHS. This locum role is to cover a vacancy and focuses on undertaking Education, Health and Care (EHC) needs assessments for children and young people aged 0–19, alongside mainstream school assessments for those aged 5–19. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced SLT to contribute to statutory assessment pathways and support children’s communication needs across health and education settings.
Key Responsibilities

- Undertake EHC needs assessments for children and young people aged 0–19.
- Complete Speech and Language Therapy assessments within mainstream schools for children aged 5–19.
- Administer a range of formal and informal Speech and Language Therapy assessment tools.
- Produce high-quality written reports to inform EHC plans and educational provision.
- Work collaboratively with education staff, families, and multidisciplinary professionals.
- Contribute to person-centred assessment and planning to support children’s communication and learning needs.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation in line with professional and organisational standards.
About You
You are an experienced Paediatric Speech and Language Therapist with strong expertise in statutory assessments and mainstream school-based work. You bring excellent assessment, report-writing, and communication skills and are confident working autonomously within agreed frameworks. Your collaborative and child-centred approach ensures high-quality outcomes for children and young people.
Requirements

- Degree in Speech and Language Therapy and current HCPC registration.
- Experience administering formal and informal speech and language assessments.
- Essential experience undertaking EHC needs assessments and writing detailed assessment reports.
- Essential experience completing assessments within mainstream school settings.
- Strong clinical reasoning, report-writing, and organisational skills.
- Ability to work effectively with children, families, education professionals, and MDT colleagues.
Contract & Salary
- Degree in Speech and Language Therapy and current HCPC registration.
