Job Overview
We are recruiting an experienced **Senior Social Worker (Qualified Social Worker – QSW)** to join the **Children with Disabilities Team at the London Borough of Havering**. This specialist role focuses on managing complex safeguarding and care planning for children and young people with disabilities, supporting their families, and providing professional guidance to colleagues.
As a Senior Social Worker, you will handle complex cases, mentor less experienced staff, and work closely with children, families, and partner agencies to ensure services are responsive, effective, and centred on the needs of children with disabilities.
Key Responsibilities
Lead on complex safeguarding and care planning for children with disabilities.
Undertake statutory assessments under the Children Act to identify risks, needs, and strengths.
Develop, implement, and review care and support plans that reflect children’s individual needs.
Provide mentoring, coaching, and professional guidance to junior and newly qualified social workers.
Prepare and present clear, evidence-based reports for child protection conferences, statutory reviews, and court proceedings.
Work directly with children, young people, and families to build trusting and supportive relationships.
Collaborate with schools, health professionals, voluntary organisations, and specialist disability services to provide coordinated support.
Ensure accurate, timely, and compliant case recording in line with legislation and Havering Council policies.
Contribute to reflective supervision, team learning, and service improvement.
About You
You are an experienced and resilient social worker with strong expertise in working with children and young people with disabilities. You are confident in handling complex safeguarding work, mentoring colleagues, and ensuring children’s needs remain central to all decision-making.
Requirements
Qualified Social Worker (QSW) with registration to **Social Work England**.
Extensive post-qualification experience in Children’s Services, ideally within a disabilities team.
Proven ability to manage complex safeguarding and child protection cases.
Experience of mentoring, coaching, or supporting colleagues.
Strong knowledge of child protection legislation, statutory frameworks, and best practice.
Excellent assessment, communication, and report-writing skills.
