View JobDevon County Council is committed to delivering high-quality support and protection for children and families across the region. As a Children’s Senior Social Worker, you will take a lead role in managing complex and high-risk cases, supporting vulnerable children, and mentoring less experienced colleagues. Working within a strengths-based and restorative practice framework, you will help drive positive outcomes for children and young people in Devon.

Lead complex child protection cases, including those involving court proceedings, ensuring the safety and welfare of children are at the forefront of all decisions.

Provide professional supervision and support to junior social workers, helping them develop confidence and good practice in line with Devon’s values.

Carry out comprehensive assessments under statutory responsibilities (e.g., Section 17 and Section 47 of the Children Act 1989) to inform planning and interventions.

Work collaboratively with partner agencies, including health, education, and police, to deliver coordinated safeguarding and support.

Develop and review child-centered care plans, ensuring timely interventions and appropriate services are in place to meet assessed needs.

Contribute to service development and quality assurance, sharing knowledge, participating in audits, and supporting best practice initiatives.
