Job Overview
We are recruiting an experienced Occupational Therapist to join Bexley Council within the South East London Social Services team. This locum role is based in the Reablement Service, supporting adults across Bexley to regain confidence and independence in daily living following illness, injury, or changes in circumstances.
You’ll deliver person-centred reablement interventions that focus on promoting independence, reducing long-term care needs, and helping individuals live safely and comfortably in their own homes.
Key Responsibilities
– Undertake strength-based holistic assessments of adults with physical, learning, or mental health needs within their home environment.
– Develop and monitor reablement programmes that empower people to achieve independence in daily living activities.
– Provide specialist advice on equipment, adaptations, and techniques to support independence and safety.
– Work collaboratively with care agency staff, physiotherapists, rehab assistants, and social workers to deliver coordinated care.
– Carry out moving and handling assessments, equipment provision, and risk assessments in line with professional and local standards.
– Support the Trusted Partner model and Health & Social Care Integration Framework to ensure seamless service delivery.
– Liaise with statutory and voluntary sector partners, sharing rehabilitative knowledge and supporting joint working.
– Promote independence and wellbeing through education, skill-building, and goal-based interventions.
About You
You’ll be a confident and compassionate Occupational Therapist with strong experience in reablement or community-based social care. You’ll have the ability to assess complex needs, plan practical interventions, and work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
You’ll be motivated by helping individuals maximise their independence, with excellent communication and problem-solving skills that support effective outcomes for residents across Bexley.
Requirements
– Degree (or equivalent) in Occupational Therapy
– Current HCPC registration
– Experience in reablement, community, or adult social care settings (essential)
– Strong understanding of rehabilitation, equipment provision, and strength-based practice
– Knowledge of the Trusted Partner model and Health & Social Care Integration Framework (desirable)
– Excellent communication, teamwork, and organisational skills
– Ability to work independently and manage a varied caseload
Contract & Salary
– Contract type: Locum
– Contract length: Ongoing
– Working hours: Full time, Monday to Friday (37 hours per week)
– Location: Bexley Council – South East London Social Services
– Salary: £38 per hour (Umbrella)
