About the Role
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Band 6 Specialist Occupational Therapist to join the Inpatient Stroke Unit at Princess Royal Hospital. This is a full on-site role for an initial 3-month period, delivering specialist assessment, treatment and discharge planning for patients with complex stroke-related needs.
Main Responsibilities
- Assess, diagnose, interpret and manage your own specialist caseload of complex stroke patients as an autonomous practitioner, in line with HCPC standards and professional codes of conduct.
- Apply advanced clinical knowledge and skills gained through post-graduate training and relevant experience.
- Work closely with colleagues across all Care Groups to deliver a cohesive, patient-centred service that promotes high-quality care, optimal flow and safe, timely discharge.
- Support team leads and senior therapists in providing structured training, supervision and appraisal for team members.
- Assist senior staff in maintaining an efficient, responsive operational service.
- Act as a source of specialist advice within the Therapy Centre, across the Trust and the wider health economy.
- Communicate effectively with patients, carers and MDT colleagues to ensure the best possible outcomes.
- Participate in audit activity to support service development and quality assurance.
- Work flexibly within Therapy Centre cover arrangements, including occasional movement into other clinical areas within your competence.
Requirements
- HCPC-registered Occupational Therapist.
- Substantial post-graduate experience with evidence of specialist skills in stroke or relevant neurological rehabilitation.
- Strong clinical reasoning, organisational ability and commitment to high-quality patient care.
- Excellent communication skills for working within a busy MDT and supporting junior staff.
- Ability to work independently and confidently manage a complex caseload.
Working Hours
- Monday to Friday, 08:30 – 16:30 (37.5 hours per week).
- Option to participate in the inpatient stroke rota at weekends and bank holidays.
- Fully on-site role with no remote working available.
