Paediatric Occupational Therapist – Band 6/7 (Locum)

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Paediatric Occupational Therapist to join St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, working across Queen Mary’s Hospital, Roehampton and Wandsworth Schools within the South West London NHS. This locum role is available for a minimum of four months and focuses on delivering specialist OT assessments and recommendations for children undergoing the Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) process. You will support schools, families, and local authority partners to ensure that children with special educational needs receive the provision they require to thrive.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality, specialist occupational therapy assessments and professional recommendations for children progressing through the EHCP process.

  • Work collaboratively with Local Authority Case Coordinators to ensure timely and accurate contributions to EHCP documentation.

  • Autonomously manage a caseload of children with diverse special educational needs, offering ongoing advice and clinical input as required within their EHCPs.

  • Offer guidance and support to teaching staff, parents, and carers in the management of complex cases.

  • Provide specialist representation in tribunal hearings and support mediation processes in close partnership with the Local Authority’s Tribunals Manager.

  • Deliver clinical supervision to junior occupational therapy colleagues, supporting their professional development.

  • Ensure clear documentation and professional communication in line with NHS and Trust standards.

About You

You are a knowledgeable and confident Paediatric Occupational Therapist with a strong background in NHS services. You excel in autonomous practice, have excellent communication skills, and are comfortable working with children who have a range of special educational needs. Your understanding of the EHCP process, combined with your collaborative approach, enables you to work effectively with schools, families, and local authority professionals. Experience in supporting tribunal or mediation cases is beneficial.

Requirements

  •
    • Degree or diploma in Occupational Therapy and registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

    • Strong paediatric OT experience, ideally within NHS settings.

    • Knowledge of the EHCP process and experience working with children with special educational needs.

    • Excellent assessment, report-writing, and communication skills.

    • Ability to work collaboratively with schools, families, and local authority teams.

    • Experience providing supervision to junior colleagues is desirable.

    • Confidence working independently across school and clinical settings.

    Contract & Salary

      • Job Type: Locum

      • Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 09:00 – 17:00 (part-time considered)

      • Location: Queen Mary’s Hospital, Roehampton and Wandsworth Schools – St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

      • Area: South West London NHS
