Visual Impairment Officer

Brief Job Overview

Tripod Partners are recruiting a Visual Impairment Officer for a locum opportunity within South West London Social Services. Based with the Kensington and Chelsea Council, this role will support adults with visual impairments to maintain independence, improve daily living skills, and access appropriate support services within the community.

The successful candidate will provide specialist assessment, rehabilitation, advice, and practical support to individuals experiencing sight loss, helping them achieve greater confidence, safety, and independence in their everyday lives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake specialist assessments of individuals with visual impairments.
  • Provide rehabilitation support to maximise independence and daily living skills.
  • Assess functional abilities and identify appropriate interventions to support safe independent living.
  • Recommend and demonstrate the use of specialist equipment, aids, and assistive technology.
  • Provide advice and guidance to service users, families, and carers.
  • Support individuals to access community resources and appropriate support services.
  • Work collaboratively with social care teams, health professionals, and partner organisations.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with organisational policies and professional standards.
  • Promote person-centred, strengths-based approaches to support positive outcomes.

About You

You will have experience working with people who have visual impairments or sensory needs, alongside a strong commitment to promoting independence, inclusion, and wellbeing.

You will possess excellent communication, assessment, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with service users, carers, and multidisciplinary professionals.

Requirements

  • Experience working with visually impaired adults or within sensory impairment services.
  • Knowledge of rehabilitation techniques and support strategies for people with sight loss.
  • Experience recommending and supporting the use of specialist equipment and assistive technology.
  • Strong assessment, communication, and case management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a varied caseload.
  • Understanding of person-centred and strengths-based practice.
  • Knowledge of relevant social care legislation and safeguarding principles desirable.
