Senior Physiotherapist – Band 6

Brief Job Overview

Tripod Partners are recruiting an experienced Band 6 Senior Physiotherapist for a locum opportunity with Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust. Working within the Cambridgeshire NHS Intermediate Care Service, you will support older people and adults requiring short-term rehabilitation across both community and care home settings.

This role offers the opportunity to work across Pathway 1 (Care at Home) and Pathway 2 (Care Home Beds), delivering specialist physiotherapy assessment and rehabilitation to promote independence, prevent avoidable hospital admissions, and support timely discharge from acute services. You will be part of an integrated multidisciplinary team providing high-quality, patient-centred care to adults with complex rehabilitation needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide specialist physiotherapy assessment and treatment for adults and older people receiving Intermediate Care services.
  • Work across Pathway 1 (Care at Home) and Pathway 2 (Care Home Beds), delivering rehabilitation in both community and residential care environments.
  • Manage a shared caseload of patients with complex physical, neurological, and age-related conditions.
  • Undertake comprehensive assessments using advanced clinical reasoning to identify rehabilitation needs and establish realistic treatment goals.
  • Develop and deliver personalised rehabilitation programmes that improve mobility, strength, balance, function, and independence.
  • Assess and recommend appropriate equipment and mobility aids to support safe discharge and ongoing rehabilitation.
  • Adopt a holistic, patient-centred approach, working across professional boundaries where appropriate.
  • Ensure patients and carers are actively involved in assessment, goal setting, and rehabilitation planning.
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary colleagues to coordinate integrated rehabilitation and discharge planning.
  • Provide clinical support, supervision, and education to junior physiotherapists, Therapy Assistant Practitioners, Integrated Care Workers, students, and non-registered staff.
  • Delegate work appropriately while maintaining accountability for delegated tasks.
  • Prioritise workload according to clinical need and provide resilience across locality teams during periods of operational demand.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation in accordance with HCPC and NHS standards.

About You

You will be a HCPC-registered Physiotherapist with experience working within Intermediate Care, community rehabilitation, or services supporting older adults. You will be confident managing complex caseloads independently while working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

You will possess excellent clinical reasoning, rehabilitation, communication, and organisational skills, together with a commitment to delivering evidence-based, patient-centred physiotherapy that supports recovery and maximises independence.

Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in Physiotherapy.
  • Current HCPC registration.
  • Experience working within Intermediate Care, community rehabilitation, or older adult services.
  • Strong assessment and rehabilitation skills for patients with complex physical and functional needs.
  • Experience providing mobility assessments, rehabilitation programmes, and equipment recommendations.
  • Ability to work autonomously within an integrated multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent communication, clinical reasoning, and time management skills.
  • Experience supervising or supporting junior staff, assistants, or students is desirable.
  • Commitment to delivering high-quality, evidence-based physiotherapy.

Contract & Salary

  • Role: Senior Physiotherapist – Band 6
  • Sector: Cambridgeshire NHS
  • Employer: Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust
  • Service: Intermediate Care – Older People and Adult Community
  • Contract Type: Locum
  • Contract Length: Ongoing
  • Salary: Negotiable
  • Location: Cambridgeshire
