MSK Interface Physiotherapist – Band 8

Brief Job Overview

Tripod Partners are recruiting an experienced Band 8 MSK Interface Physiotherapist for an exciting locum opportunity within Hertfordshire NHS. This is an urgent requirement for an Advanced Musculoskeletal Interface Physiotherapist to join the Musculoskeletal Interface Service (MSKI), providing expert clinical assessment and management of patients with complex musculoskeletal conditions.

Working at Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) level, you will play a pivotal role in the assessment, triage, diagnosis, and management of complex MSK presentations. You will work autonomously, making informed clinical decisions regarding imaging, specialist referrals, joint injections, and onward management, helping to deliver timely, high-quality care while reducing unnecessary secondary care referrals.

Key Responsibilities

• Undertake advanced assessment and management of patients with complex musculoskeletal conditions.
• Provide expert clinical triage for referrals into the Musculoskeletal Interface Service.
• Use advanced clinical reasoning to determine appropriate management pathways.
• Request and interpret diagnostic investigations, including X-rays and MRI scans, where appropriate.
• Refer patients to secondary care specialties, including rheumatology and orthopaedics, when clinically indicated.
• Assess suitability for joint injection therapy and other advanced MSK interventions.
• Work autonomously as an Advanced Clinical Practitioner while collaborating with multidisciplinary colleagues.
• Provide specialist advice and support to GPs, healthcare professionals, and patients.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and comply with HCPC and NHS professional standards.
• Contribute to service development, clinical governance, and the continuous improvement of MSK services.

About You

You will be an experienced HCPC-registered Physiotherapist with significant postgraduate experience in advanced musculoskeletal practice. You will have excellent clinical reasoning skills and be confident managing complex MSK presentations independently within an interface service or Advanced Clinical Practitioner role.

You will be passionate about delivering evidence-based care, reducing unnecessary hospital referrals, and supporting patients through effective diagnosis, treatment planning, and specialist referral pathways.

Requirements

• Degree or Diploma in Physiotherapy.
• Current HCPC registration.
• Significant experience within advanced Musculoskeletal (MSK) Physiotherapy.
• Experience working within an MSK Interface Service or Advanced Clinical Practitioner role.
• Advanced clinical assessment and diagnostic skills.
• Experience requesting and interpreting diagnostic imaging, including X-rays and MRI scans.
• Experience referring patients to secondary care services such as rheumatology and orthopaedics.
• Knowledge and experience of joint injection pathways is highly desirable.
• Excellent communication, clinical reasoning, and autonomous decision-making skills.
• Commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care within a multidisciplinary environment.
