Job Summary
- We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Band 8a Pharmacist to lead, manage, and develop the pharmacy service within the Aintree directorate.
- The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the safe, effective, and cost-efficient use of medicines across the service, supporting clinical teams with advanced pharmaceutical expertise, and driving continuous quality improvement.
- The successful candidate will act as a key member of the multidisciplinary team, providing strategic direction for medicines optimisation and supporting evidence-based clinical practice.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee the pharmacy service within the directorate, ensuring alignment with Trust-wide objectives and governance frameworks.
- Provide highly specialist pharmaceutical advice to consultants, clinicians, and other healthcare professionals.
- Promote safe, effective, and economic use of medicines in line with local and national policies.
- Lead on the development, implementation, and review of evidence-based guidelines, protocols, and policies.
- Support and influence multidisciplinary decision-making on complex therapeutic issues.
- Ensure compliance with medicines management standards and regulatory requirements.
- Contribute to and lead on audits, service evaluations, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Manage, mentor, and support the development of pharmacy staff within the directorate.
- Participate in clinical governance activities, risk management, and incident reviews related to medicines use.
- Work closely with senior colleagues to support financial stewardship of the medicines budget.
Essential Criteria
- Registered Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
- Postgraduate diploma in clinical pharmacy or equivalent experience.
- Demonstrable NHS hospital experience in a senior or specialist pharmacist role.
- Proven experience in leadership, service development, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Sound clinical knowledge across a range of therapeutic areas
