Job Overview
Enfield Council is seeking an organised and customer-focused Access Screening Officer to join its Adult Social Care team in North London. This locum role involves being the first point of contact for residents and professionals, providing accurate information, assessing eligibility for support, and ensuring referrals are appropriately screened and directed.
You’ll play a key part in supporting adults, particularly those who are elderly or vulnerable, by gathering essential information, assessing risk, and identifying the most suitable services or resources to meet their needs. This role is also suitable for an experienced Occupational Therapy Assistant or someone with a background in social care triage or customer service within a public sector environment.
Key Responsibilities
– Respond promptly to incoming enquiries via the Adult Social Care 1001 enquiry telephone line, as well as by email, correspondence, and other digital channels.
– Gather and record accurate information from customers, families, and professionals to support timely decision-making and referrals.
– Use professional judgement to assess eligibility for services, funding, benefits, and concessions in line with local and national guidance.
– Assess and manage risk for elderly and vulnerable residents, escalating safeguarding concerns where necessary.
– Allocate or signpost customers to appropriate services and resources, ensuring they receive the right level of support.
– Maintain accurate case notes and data entries in accordance with Enfield Council’s policies and data protection standards.
– Work collaboratively with colleagues and partner agencies to ensure effective service delivery and communication across departments.
About You
You’ll be a calm, empathetic, and detail-oriented professional with strong communication and problem-solving skills. You’ll be confident handling sensitive information, making sound decisions under pressure, and working collaboratively to deliver person-centred support to residents.
Requirements
– Experience in a social care, healthcare, or customer service environment (essential)
– Ability to manage complex enquiries and exercise professional judgement in assessing eligibility and risk
– Excellent written and verbal communication skills
– Proficiency in using IT systems and multi-channel communication platforms
– Knowledge of adult social care processes and safeguarding principles (desirable)
– Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
– Experience working with vulnerable adults or within a local authority setting (desirable)
