Job Details:
North East London NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join the Nurse-Led Stroke Rehabilitation Unit at Brentwood Community Hospital. The ward is supported by a multidisciplinary team including nurses, healthcare assistants, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, speech and language therapists, therapy assistants, and medical staff.

Patients are typically recovering from a recent stroke and require inpatient rehabilitation to maximise recovery and support discharge—either to their own home or an appropriate care setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a caseload of stroke patients, acting as keyworker where appropriate.

  • Carry out comprehensive OT assessments and develop person-centred treatment plans.

  • Set, monitor, and review rehabilitation goals in collaboration with patients, carers, and the MDT.

  • Deliver interventions in line with evidence-based practice, using standardised assessments and outcome measures.

  • Support discharge planning, leading when in the keyworker role.

  • Apply expertise in moving and handling, cognitive rehabilitation, wheelchair and special seating provision, and splinting.

  • Act as an advocate for patients and carers, ensuring meaningful participation in life roles.

  • Contribute to flexible, interdisciplinary, and multi-agency working practices.

  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and records in line with Trust policies and HCPC requirements.

  • Keep up to date with current stroke rehabilitation practices, NICE guidelines, and professional standards.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Neurology / Stroke rehabilitation

  • Cognitive rehabilitation

  • Goal setting and discharge planning

  • Wheelchair and special seating provision

  • Splinting

  • Strong multidisciplinary team working

Working Hours:

  • Full-time, 37.5 hours per week

  • Monday to Friday
