Job details:  Integrated and Community Care. Senior Therapist– Emergency Department & Acute Assessment Units. Front Door Team. JD available on request:

  • To provide, develop and deliver rapid assessment and timely discharges within the Emergency Department and Acute Assessment units. Using specialist and skilled levels of Physiotherapy/Occupational Therapy intervention to work collaboratively with community services and the MDT to prevent hospital admission and reduce readmission rates.
  • Working within an integrated OT/PT service with shared skills to facilitate seamless working and the ability to flex to demand, across a sevenday service.
  • To assist with the development of the therapy services to provide high quality care and timely intervention.
  • To hold responsibility for own case load and be responsible for all patients on their wards, working without direct supervision.  Supervision will take the form of regular formal training, clinical reasoning session’s and one to one sessions with a supervisor. 
  • The staff member will be required to work their contracted hours over 7 days a week.
  • To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.
  • To chair Team meetings, planning staffing and workloads. Monitor and manage annual leave or sickness ensuring adequate cover.
  • To work within a framework of local, national and CSP/RCOT delivered standards and evaluate quality of practice, this may include undertaking evidence-based audit, satisfaction surveys, recording statistics and service change. 
  • To actively participate in the Clinical Governance agenda of the team you are working in.
  • To maintain and develop current knowledge of evidence-based practice in each specialist area, developing knowledge of particular conditions and patient types.
  • To be trained and skilled across traditional professional roles. This will include assessing and issuing equipment, reviewing care needs, assessing mobility and physical function regardless of clinical qualification.
  • The job requires moderate physical effort and concentration for most of the day, often with frequent interruption e.g. phone calls.
  • You will be required to work alone in some environments – at weekends, evenings and on-call service, assessing and managing clinical and personal risk.
