Rehab Assistant – Band 3

Brief Job Overview

We are recruiting an enthusiastic and motivated Rehab Assistant (Band 3) to join the Intensive Rehabilitation and Therapy Service at the North East London NHS Foundation Trust (NELFT), based across Grays Court Community Hospital and Goodmayes Hospital.

This locum role offers a rewarding opportunity to work alongside experienced Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists, supporting patients in their recovery and rehabilitation both in hospital and community settings. You’ll play a vital part in helping individuals regain independence and improve their quality of life through tailored therapy programmes and home visits.

Key Responsibilities

  • Follow and implement treatment plans prescribed by designated Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists.
  • Undertake up to six home visits per day, providing therapy support and interventions within patients’ own homes.
  • Assist in delivering rehabilitation programmes designed to promote independence and recovery.
  • Support patients with exercises, mobility, and activities of daily living in accordance with agreed therapy plans.
  • Monitor patients’ progress, providing feedback to the supervising clinicians and updating relevant documentation.
  • Encourage and motivate patients to participate actively in their therapy and recovery.
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team, maintaining excellent communication with colleagues across Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, and community services.
  • Ensure all interventions are carried out safely and in accordance with NHS and NELFT clinical guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to team meetings, reviews, and handovers as required.
  • Demonstrate a flexible approach to working across community and inpatient settings as part of the agile working model.

About You

You are a confident and compassionate rehab professional with hands-on experience supporting adults in their recovery journey. You enjoy working in a community-focused role, helping patients regain confidence and independence in their own environments. You’re adaptable, organised, and a strong communicator who thrives in a collaborative healthcare setting.

Requirements

  • Previous experience working within the NHS or a similar healthcare setting.
  • Experience supporting Physiotherapists or Occupational Therapists within a rehabilitation or community therapy service.
  • Relevant qualification or training as a Physiotherapy or Occupational Therapy Assistant.
  • Strong understanding of rehabilitation techniques and principles.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a compassionate, patient-centred approach.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a car – essential for community visits.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively while travelling between patient visits.
  • Agile working capability and flexibility to work across both hospital and community settings.
  • Commitment to NHS values and high standards of care.
