Occupational Therapist – Band 6 (Locum)

Job Overview

We are recruiting an experienced Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join the Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust at Aintree Hospital, within Merseyside NHS. This locum role sits within the inpatient therapy service and involves managing a complex caseload on the Medicine and Gastroenterology wards. You will play a key role in supporting patient flow, delivering timely occupational therapy interventions, and contributing to safe, effective discharge planning in a fast-paced acute environment.

Key Responsibilities

•   
  • Hold and manage a complex occupational therapy caseload within Medicine and Gastroenterology inpatient wards.
     

  • Undertake specialist assessments and deliver targeted interventions to support functional independence and safe discharge.
     

  • Support patient flow through proactive assessment, intervention, and discharge planning.
     

  • Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to coordinate care and facilitate efficient pathways.
     

  • Provide guidance and support to junior Occupational Therapy staff as required.
     

  • Maintain accurate, professional documentation in line with Trust and HCPC standards.

   

  About You

   

  You are a confident and experienced Occupational Therapist with a strong background in acute inpatient care. You are skilled in managing complex caseloads, working efficiently within multidisciplinary teams, and contributing to timely discharge planning. Your ability to provide clinical support to junior staff and deliver high-quality, patient-centred care will be essential in this role.

   

  Requirements

    

  • • Degree or diploma in Occupational Therapy with current HCPC registration.
       

    • Experience working in acute inpatient settings, ideally within Medicine or Gastroenterology.
       

    • Strong clinical assessment, intervention, and discharge planning skills.
       

    • Ability to support and supervise junior therapy staff.
       

    • Excellent communication, time management, and multidisciplinary team-working skills.
